TC40DA PTO issues

The PTO engagement lever on my 2nd hand tractor previously seized in the engaged position so I got someone out to it who rectified it at a helluva cost. The tractor, through necessity, is kept in a container which, he advised me, was not a good idea but it's a case of needs must.

Anyway, since then I have found that the PTO engagement lever has become 'floppy' and the tractor won't start unless the lever is physically held in position as the micro switch simply pushes it away.

Similarly, I have found that, when using the John Deere Aercore in the 540E position it tends to jump out of engagement.

I'm hoping it's nothing more than the linkage as selection isn't as positive as I'd like.

Any ideas/advice appreciated.

Have you checked for loose bolts on the engagement arm? This would explain not engaging the safety switch and possibly jumping out of engagement.

If I understand you correctly, no I haven't. Something to look at. However with 540/540E selector there aren't any bolts of that manner. Or am I being fooled into looking in the wrong place? It doesn't jump out of 540 though. I get the impression that it doesn't fully engage in 540E and engages too fully in 540. If you understand what I mean. As though the selector is too far one way.

I am not familiar with your specific tractor. Any adjustment in the linkage or possibly a worn pin?
Hopefully someone on here with experience with your model will offer up some tips.

I've been turning over your original response in my mind and I can't think of any bolts. There's a clevis pin and split pin in the linkage but that's all I can think of. To be clear my computer is at home and the tractor's at the Club.

I'm not too sure about the linkage systems anyway. I can only assume that it's for greater torque but I'm not impressed. Tractor is 03 registered which I neglected to mention.
