First off I'd like to thank all for the info on this site. While on my trip to pickup almost new but used TC40da I also picked up a set of new turf tires I won on Ebay. The tires on tractor are R4s and measure (circumference)148" rear 98" front ratio of 1.5102, Turf tires on TC40da at dealer 44x1800-20 rear 142" , 27x1250-15 front 84" ratio 1.6904. The tires I bought 44x1800-20 rear 142" , 29x1250-15 front 92" ratio 1.5434. Ask dealer while there and he said R4s and turfs go on same tractors. With that said my guess would be the tires I bought would work or am I missing something. Once again thanks for all the hours of reading and info.

Congratulations and welcome to the TBN forums. We'll look forward to hearing more about your tractor.

I don't know a lot about turf tires, but they don't have cleats and should be able to do a fair amount of slipping on grass anyhow. I think your ratio will be fine. You should not experience too much drivetrain windup with them. If going into and out of MFWD is tough, just wiggle the front wheels back and forth while driving in reverse and that should making shifting out of MFWD much easier. If you have your loader on, just put the bucket down and lift the front wheels. That does it every time for me.

I'm assuming you have a loader on the tractor for snow removal on your road.

You can't use the measured circumference when figuring the ratio. You have to use the Rolling Circumference. If you go to the manufactures site, they will have the Rolling Circumference listed.

Well that answers that question, When I checked the web site the R4s have a ratio of 1.61 to 1, Factory turfs 1.63 to 1, Turfs I bought 1.55 to 1. I guess I could try a little extra air in the rears to close the gap, the web site says to stay within 3%+ or -. It's no loss if I can't use them on the TC40da I knew when I bought them that they were one size larger and I have other uses for them.I think I'll give them a try, when the tractor is in auto it's pretty much running in 2wd anyway. The tractor does have a loader with a QA 72" bucket which is very nice.I didn't really want the loader but it was $4000 cheaper to buy this one with 50hrs with the loader than to buy new without. With hearing from the dealers when I was going to trade my old one "if it only had a loader" and "loaders sell tractors", I figured it was better to get the one with the loader.

You also need to know the gear ratio. This link provides a good discussion of the subject:TractorSmart home page

Look under "info" and it will lead to the discussion on tires.

Don't think that you can't use them yet. Given the amount that the factory tires could be off and the amount that is acceptable, there can be a pretty good swing is sizes. Get that gear ratio from a shop manual or your dealer and find the RC on the tire site, then check it out. They might very well work. Good luck.
