TC40DA
I am looking at a trade on a WM 55 or Deere 5055E. I have been a customer of the NH dealer for 14 years and have bought all my implements and all service/tractor and rentals from them. They were recently bought by a competitor and merged with a Kubota dealership but are still a NH dealer. The service has been great, sales great, staff awesome. But....looking at a trade for a WM 55 FWD with bucket (or Deere pending their offer) I'm somewhat shocked by what they'll offer me in trade. Let me run down quickly what my TC40DA has on it for options (it just doesn't meet my needs I need more of an ag tractor). Then please tell me ballpark what you think I should be offered (roughly.) He told me his offer is very good and I won't do better anywhere else.

*2003 machine TC40DA hydrostatic
*4 Wheel drive
*Stored indoors
*816 hours (yes, about 75 hours a year is all)
*Immaculate condition
*Brand new seat as the original got torn
*ALL service done properly and on time at this dealership
*No history of any problems whatsoever
*HD NH loader with carbide tooth fork (16LA? Can't remember the model now.)
*Rear top link hydraulic with remote
*Rear side link hydraulic with remote
*ROPS mounted work lights front and rear
*Original industrial tires in 70% condition
*Paint is about 90%
*Both front and rear tires are filled with non tox fluid
*Wheel weights

He's offering the Workmaster 55 at $28,000 with loader (FWD) and $12,500 in trade. I thought it was low, he said the machine at retail is only worth $14 to $15,000 tops. If this is indeed low I may sell it outright myself if I can.

there not screwing you, there just hoping to make a profit after they resale it. They have to make something for their troubles.

When i purchased my new tractor, i was only getting offers of 5-6 grand for trade in on my old JD870. I ended up taking about 6 months to sell it on my own over craigslist for $10,500.

I could have traded it in, and save the time and trouble, but im cheap. I figured out i didnt have to sell it, so i didnt deal much on what i was willing to take. After maybe 15+ offers of between 8-9 grand cash, i found the right buyer that made me the offer i could live with.

A dealership probably really doesnt even want the used tractor on his site. it compeats with the new stock. He cant offer financing on used equipment, and cant offer any warranty. I say sell it yourself and use that cash towards the new tractor.

You always have to consider if you can easily sell for more than what you are being offered for trade and compare that to your desire to have a new machine. Consider that the dealer has no interest in owning another tractor and has to try to unload your trade for some profit. I guess the question is if you would buy yours for what you are being offered for trade on the presumption that you are going to resell it for a profit within a reasonable time.

I guess maybe I'm a victim of the listed prices on Tractorhouse. Look there, all the TC40DA's with many times the hours are listed for $22,000 or more. I'm not sure if they're being sold for that or not of course. I don't mind them making a profit, of course they should. But if these 40DA's were truly selling for $20,000+ then $12,500 is low. They've sold every used tractor on their lot this year. I looked originally for old used iron, they can't get enough clean stuff to stock. So they had one used Kubota 56? HP with loader and backhoe that went in days. They'll move this tractor.

Well, Deere offered $3,000 more on trade for my TC40DA. I'm going from Blue to Green. And threw in telescoping link arms and front weight support bracket.

The NH dealer I dealt with didn't keep any used tractors, they all went to the auction. There they go cheaper but quicker so he gets his money faster out of a trade-in.

I know. Tractor house is nuts! Lots of people asking wild prices.

Glad the green guys made you a deal. Enjoy the new equipment.

Congratulations and welcome to the fold. Similar thing happened to me, my local Kioti dealer didn't even want my Kioti on trade! Deere did right by me as well and I'm loving my 4120.

I'm pretty certain there aren't too many takers for a $22,000 TC40D with just a loader.

I'm in agreement. I purchased my '03 TC35D in mid-'04 with a loader, heavy duty bucket, 6' Bush Hog cutter and MBX box blade for just a shade over $20k.
