Ken, let me drop in with my two cents worth on your problem. If I understand correctly, you are saying that your joystick control will switch to low range only while you hold the button down, but the fender switch will not shift to low at all...or are you saying the fender switch works the same? I'm splitting hairs here, but it's important to know exactly what the symptons are. Is the light on the fender switch changing while you have the joystick button depressed to low range?
Here is why I am asking so many questions. The range solenoid is deenergized to provide low range operation. Both the joystick and fender switches are momentary contact to either hi or lo position and then they return to center (no contact) when released. If you select hi, there is a relay --under the cowling below your steering wheel -- which latches in and holds the solenoid energized. When you select lo range, there is a low range relay which only functions momentarily to interrupt the latch-in current to the hi relay. When you turn the tractor off, the hi range relay deenergizes and doesn't reenergize until you select hi with the range switch. What is my point? ...well... I think you might have a faulty low range relay, but unless I know exactly how the problem acts, I'm not completely sure. If the tractor is actually switching to lo only while you hold either the joystick or fender switch, that is the most baffling issue to me. If you could disconnect your joystick switch and then try the fender switch, it might help to isolate the problem. Of course, I guess there is the possibility that one of the switches has fused hi speed contacts and only while you force it to make contact with lo, would it cause the tranny to switch. ...but why would it stay in lo range when you turn off the tractor and restart? If the switch were shorted, wouldn't it immediately switch back to hi? I'm scratching my head a little on this, Ken. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif I wish I could put a meter on the circuit because I could trace down the problem. Good luck and I hope my ramblings haven't confused you.
