TC45DA 300 hour service

Hi All,

Just did the 300 hr service on my TC45DA. The manual says the capacity for the transmission and rear axle should be 9.65 gallons. When I pulled the two drain plugs I got about 7 gallons. I bought the tractor used and have only put about 10 hours on it before the service. I am not sure if the oil was low before I changed it (I should have checked it).

It didn't seem like a lot of oil drained out of the transmission, maybe a quart or so......

I only put in about the same as came out 7 gallons or so. The dipstick says its full.

Any thoughts?

I don't remember the exact quantities I drained out on my three previous changes, but it was a lot less than 9.6 gallons. Some of the oil will be in the hydraulic pump, 3PH, and loader plumbing. Additional oil will be trapped in the transmission cooler, the HST transmission, and filters. I would expect all of that to be no more than 1-gal. There is obviously some fluid that gets trapped inside the reservoir because most people have reported a lot less oil than they expected. Personally, I just drain what I can and don't worry about the rest. I fill to the mark on the dipstick and call it good.

I reread your post and see that you said you pulled both drain plugs, so I think you did everything right.

I get about 6.5 gallons out on each change on my TC35D. Not to worry, Frank

Thanks for your response. I just figured I would ask being this is my fiorst time. I did just like Jim said, I drained it until no oil came out and then filled it up to the dip stick, drove it around a little using the loader and transmission and then parked on it on level ground and checked it again. Added to the dip stick was full and put it away for the winter. I also added ainti jell to the diesel. Hope that was okay, my first diesel tractor. Wish I had electric by my portable garage to warm the engine in the winter incase I need the bucket to move some snow. I guess I could run an extension cord out there if needed. Anything else I should do for the winter?

keeping fresh engine oil in it for winter not bad idea if it is close to time for a change. Also, coolant change is not a bad idea. should be done yearly.

You have not filled out your public profile yet so I do not know where you live but I live in "real upstate" New York and NEVER use my block heater unless its below ZERO degrees F. It will start right up with one cycle of the preheat. I use about 2 gallons of Kerosene mixed with my tank full of diesel and add the full amount of anti jell. Read the forum here "oil, fuel, and lubricants" for info. You can enjoy your tractor ALL winter. Best of luck, Frank
