Case Dx 45 Cab
I have a 2007 Case DX45 with factory cab. I went to use the tractor today and the a/c isn't working. Just last weekend it was working as it should. A friend of mine operated the tractor last and apparently forgot to shut down the air and fan before turning off the tractor. I know it said in the book not to do that so I'm not sure if that played a part in it.

The compressor won't engage so I can't check the pressure of the refrigerant. The switch also has power as it should. I checked the spade fuses in the cab and they are all fine. Is there a usual suspect to begin with when this issue pops up?

Any advice on steps to troubleshoot it would be greatly appreciated!

Does the fan in the cab run? I take it that it's just the compressor clutch not kicking on? You should be able to check for power getting to the clutch. If it has power and ground, it should engage. If it doesn't have power, you could disconnect the connector and supply power directly from the battery to see if it does engage.
Even when low on refrigerant, it should kick on for a couple seconds before disengaging.

Well I believe I have it figured out. It appears thermostatic switch isn't working. I had power going in to it from the cab toggle, but no power on the return. I jumped those 2 wires together and the system started functioning as it should. Now, I guess that would mean I need to replace the thermostat. O messicks they list the thermostat, but there's a note stating if you are replacing it to buy the kit instead. It doesn't make much sense. It seems like the kit just includes the bracket and other hardware but it's 3x more expensive. Has anyone replaced just the thermostat and not bought the entire kit? And before I buy anything, is my logic on point with this or could I be missing something? Thanks!

Sounds like you got it. No idea on the kit thing though. Give them a call and ask why they recommend that.

It appears they updated the design of the thermostat. So when you order the new one you are going to need the new bracket and other hardware. Messicks might be able to locate some new old stock for the original one but I may go ahead with the new design anyhow. I'm just concerned with how the new one works. The old one just had a long problem that was shoved down in between the fins. I'm worried if they changed the design too much I might not be able to figure out how to install it!
