A couple current threads have large compact vs. small utility discussions in them.
Doing a little daydreaming, I found that I have both brouchures.
So 4wd vs 4wd ROPS model
Without further ado
...........TC55 ......../......... TN60
  • PTO hp.............. :: 47 / 45
  • Cylinders........... :: 4cylinder Turbo / 3 cylinder natural
  • displacement...... :: 135cu in / 179 cu in
  • Rated speed....... :: 2700rpm / 2300rpm
  • Fuel capacity...... :: 13.5 gal / 23 gal
  • pump capacity.... :: 11.06gpm / 12.4 (opt 16.9)gpm
  • wheelbase.......... :: 74.8in / 78.9
  • overall length...... :: 137.3in / 151.6in
  • 3pt hitch capacity:: 3465 lbs / 3962lbs
  • width................. :: 64.4 in / 67.2 in
  • weight............... :: 4238 / 5375

The two big numbers that jump out at me are the wheelbase are nearly the same, which means it should turn very similiarly and the weight. The TN weighs almost half again as much. Much beefier tractor.

I don't know about prices, but thought it was an interesting comparo.

Corriher in NC advertises the TC55DA 4wd with EHSS at $19,700 if paying cash.

Brian,

I think you'll also find that the 3 cylinder diesel in the TN60A is more fuel efficient than the turbo 4 cylinder in the TC55DA, or at least that's what the Nebraska reports have shown. Fuel efficiency and the size of the axle castings (heavy castings on the TN60A vs. lightweight material on the TC55DA) are what sold me on the TN-A. I wasn't sure that the TC55DA was man enough to hold up for 10,000 hours. Better to have a heavy, loafing tractor than a small, straining one, as it makes for less headaches in the long run. The TN60A seems to be a little under-rated, and the true HP/PTO HP/torque values are probably much closer or a little improved over what they used to advertise for the old TN65 models. They're not too far apart on price, either, though when you start adding int he options on the TN-A series, it can build quickly. Remember that you still hope to get what you pay for :D

I agree with you
I just thought it was a very interesting comparo, since we always get into this and I'd actually try and throw some facts out there. :p
For sure that bigger motor of the TN is making a lot more torque, look at the extra cubic inches and lower rpm. That thing is a torque beast.

I thought the wheelbase was fascinating, almost exactly the same.

I would not last 10,000 hours :D

I'm thinking the numbers you posted must be for R1 ag tires. My TC45D with R4s is 68" wide and I'm sure the TC55 would be wider. It does make sense to compare both the TC55 and TN60 with R1s. That's more of an apples-to-apples comparison than the TC with R4s and the TN60 with Ags. Your comparison is a good one and easily points out the differences in tractors.

I for one like small light tractors with lots of horsepower. I am thinking of going with the TC55D because its lighter and can turn better and manuever better. You are less apt to sink in on wet ground and eisier to haul on trailer for transport. I cant fit the Tn on but i can the Tc55 due to lighter weight and size. That 55D is a powefull fun tractor but i suppose if your going to be going strait all day on big fields pulling a-lot then bigger is better so it depends on what your doing with it.

Ill take a 3000or 4000 ford for most lite jobs on the farm a 5610 for disc mowers,balers ect and a tc 55 for lite loader work .I dont like a 4x4 for all around farming on dry ground .The 55 has the weight about right. As long as they made the transmissions strong enough.I guess time will tell.My dad tore the rear end out of his 3000 ford with a 730 front loader .The housing for the axle broke because of loose bolts .Not that the tractor was to lite it just had a weak point that wasnt supported good enough.It was expensive to fix had to have the whole rear end housing axles ect.A better choice would have been a 555 industral i think it was a 3400 back in 1968. We still have the 3000 and its still going strong.We just dont stress it out as much .I like my tc55 the front wheels are not as large as the tn 60. It would be nice to see them side by side doing the same work in tight yard fixing situations.The 55 already seems alot bigger than the tc40d i traded in.

dlg; Corriher last fall wasn't a dime cheaper than my local dealer for the same spec tractor. Buying out of state has an extra grand for transportation and who will do the warranty work if required ? Plus my dealer gave me top trade price for my tc 45. Unless I lived 30 miles away I wouldn't give Corriher another call.
The difference between the 55 and 60 is simple. One is a compact utility and the other is a farm tractor. The TC 55 DA fit my needs the best and that is why I ordered one. Weight can be added but hard to remove for certain applications.
General Motors is a prime example of 10 different cars with similar specs. I forsee NH spreading the gap between hp ratings due to too many configerations for the same purpose.

I am very happy with my TC48DA Utility size, but did look at the TN60. It is a real Ag tractor, and the front axel is massive when compared to the TC48/55 Utility size. If you are going to do any serious farming, and have the room to swing the TN60 around then the decision is a nobrainer, if you can afford the TN60. The pecking order as I understand it is subcompact, compact, utility, Ag. Don't know exactly where you are located, but I contacted Corriher about the TC48, and they couldn't even beat the price I got from the dealer I got mine from.

I happen to own both a 2120 (same chassis as TC48/55) and a TN75D. I've had the 2120 since 1987 and it has basically performed flawlessly. They may have the same wheelbase, but they do not turn the same. IT takes quite a bit more room to get the TN turned around. My first TN was a TN75S that I traded for a D, since I think the TN wheelbase is too short for SuperSteer. As far as longevitiy, I wouldn't want to bet against the 2120/TC48/TC55 series which has been one of Ford /New Hollands most successful lines.
