Does anyone have wheel wts on a TC48, TC55, DX48, or DX55 with Ag (R1) tires? I'm trying to find out if I add 2 sets of weights, will they extend out beyond my tire width?
Thanks for your help.

On my TC40 I have two on each side and they do not extend out past the wheel. I do have my wheels set to their widest point and I have the wide, 14.9 x 24, ag tires.

When I say my wheels are at their widest that is not entirely true because if I were to take the wheels and swap sides I could make the width about 4 inches wider on each side but that would make the centerline of the tire way outside the fender.

BTW...with the 210 lbs on each side it is still not nearly enough weight for any type of loader work, even snow makes it light in the rear. I will be adding WW fluid which will add 400 lbs more to each side.

My tires are 14.9 x 28 so I think the width will be the same as yours. Do the rims adjust for the wider width, other that 'dish in vs dish out'? I plan to keep the width as narrow as they go, so if there is rim adjustment the weights will probably stick out more on mine than yours.
It sounds like I'll be getting fluid for the tires too.
Thanks for the help. The dealers don't have as much knowledge with the ag tires compared to the R4s.

Your operator's manual does a good job of describing track widths pictorally. In addition to the dish in/out there are four choices for mounting the rim to the disc.

Here's the deal:
I just ordered a DX55, and I am trying to decide whether to get wheel weights, fill the tires with WW fluid, or both. Dealer cannot tell me for certain if 2 sets of weights will extend beyond tire width since they are R1's and they mainly sell R4's on this tractor. Plus, I plan to keep the wheel width as narrow as possible. I'd like to get the weights is they are contained within the tire width and then add fluid if necessary.
Thanks again.

One weight probably won't extend beyond the tire. A second weight should be able to be mounted INSIDE the disc. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box. There is a small chance both weights will work outside the disc, but now you have Plan B.

I looked into factory wheel weights and thought they were pretty costly for just some inert lumps of cast iron.

Before you leap into weights, compare the weight with that of a box blade. If you might be needing the blade anyways, it adds a lot weight further back than the wheels and with a lower C/G. You will get more counterbalancing leverage with the weight hanging out the back than on the wheels. It can also act as an anti-roll device of sorts if you start to tip, presuming you keep it fairly low.

I have a big block of concrete hung on the 3 point of my DX29 -- about 900 lb. -- which serves very well to keep things planted most of the time.

I have weights on my wheels to increase roll resistance, which the rear weight doesn't do, but I made up my own from junkyard steel. I've got about 130 lb. on each side with an investment of less than $20 in the weights themselves.

I have 2 factory wheel weights on each side of my TC55DA but I have R4 tires so the only thing I can help you with is to tell you that I filled my tires as well......the weights probably aren't worth the $$$ actually but the fluid really makes a huge difference.......With all of that and a heavy brush hog on the back I'm about where I need to be with the 18LA loader......that combo carries a pretty heavy load in the loader, actually I wouldn't want to put any more in the loader cause it makes the front really hard to steer and I think i'm about overloaded for the tractor at that point.......

Bottom line, If I was ever planning on NOT having fluid in my tires I'd get the weights, if I was fluiding the tires I wouldn't buy the weights again. Good Luck!

Now I'm leaning toward getting the tires filled, and making a ballast box out of a drum full of concrete. Thanks for the replies.

If I was going with Cal/Chl in the tires I probably only would have added one weight per side but since I'm going with the lighter washer fluid I added two. I still plan on making some type of additional weight for the 3pt for when it is needed. With 600 lbs on each side it should be well planted for all general work.
