TC55DA
I have a '04 TC55DA. It's a tractor we greatly rely on and it has been driving me crazy for the past 2 weeks. Once it gets hot it will intermittently stall. When we go to start it, we get starter chatter, like low voltage. I have 12.4V at the battery and 12.4V at the starter. I replaced the fuel stop solenoid and the ignition switch and I'm at a loss at what it might be and how I can better isolate it.

I should also note that if we let it sit for 15-20 min, it will start right up. We use it for anywhere between 20min to 1.5 hour before it stalls again. I located all three grounds, cleaned them and coated them with dielectric grease

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any safety switches on this tractor that could be shorting ? Sounds like a puzzle.

I bypassed the seat switch and the PTO switch already. The starter chatter when I go to restart has me thinking it's not a switch and the fact that it has to cool down before it can be restarted.

How many hours, about? Does it see lots of starts and stops? Could the starter bushings be worn, causing armature-field interference? Could the solenoid be only transmitting partial amps to the starter itself?
Could you have a primary cable that looks good but is corroded internally so it resists passing good power to the starter? Do the cables get hot when you attempt a start? Did you load-test the battery?

hello Jim, Thanks for your reply. It has 1200 hours and yes, it sees a lot of starts and stops. I eliminated the starter as the culprit because the tractor shuts down but only after it gets warm, which can vary between 30min to 1.25 hours. I'm thinking that the ECU senses voltage drop and kills the fuel solenoid as a safety. When I attempt to restart I get starter chatter because of low voltage. I forgot to mention that I put a new battery in it. I also tested the voltage at the starter and it's the same as at the battery.

Thanks again for your reply.
