Hello, I have a MF TE-20 and the rear hydraulic arms will drift down fast if the pto is not running, I know this problem needs addressed fixed right but in the meantime is there anything I can do or rig up to stop this from happening without having to take the pto driveshaft out and running the pto everytime I want to transport the tractor and implement somewhere? And also any ideas what the actual problem is?

That is the way those tractors work that don't have "live" hydraulics,
the pto needs to be engaged to drive the pump which keeps the 3 pt hitch
raised.

The pto must be running to drive the pump. The acceptable standard is that the drift down should not take any less then 15 minutes with the engine shutoff or the pto disconnected. if it does, you have a leak in the internal hydraulics. Remove the right hand cover from the hydrauli compartments, start the engine and move the lift lever to the full up position.UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES PLACE YOUR HAND IN THE COMPARTMENT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING! Using a flashlight, look up toward the lift cylinder for leakage. Any thing more than a few drops is a leak and the lift cover has to come off to get to the lift cylinder. Also look around the pump for a lot of turbulence and noise. Sometimes the relief valve will get a piece of crud that doesn't allow it to fully close and this will cause a leakdown. Finally, there is a verticle pipe in the front right hand corner of the compartment. You'll need a mirror to see it. It has a gasket or an o-ring at the top that sometimes blows and causes a leak, or the tube can crack.

The only work around is to buy or make some hold up chains that attach at the top link and go to the implement lift pins. They have a slotted plate where they attach to the upper link pin that allows you to adjust the chain length to set the implement height. they are about $30-35 for a set at farm stores and once you see them you can make them with some 3/8" chain and some 1/4" x~2 to 2-/12' wide steel strip and a cutting torch. You'll need to weld the implement pin plate to the chain.
