While I am not **** about equipment care I believe if one can stay a step ahead one should try. I have a new 1025r and there are a few paint dings that I'd like to keep from becoming full blown rust blowouts. One place in particular is on the bucket where the top quick attach hooks are welded; I believe the paint was thin from the factory. The other one I can think of is on the brush guard, it's chipped and rusted.
My questions are:
1) anyone can grab a rattle can and cover the rust, but without proper prep logic says it's a short term fix. What do you use to neutralize the rust so it will not come right back? Do you sand the rusted spot to bare metal? Is there a chemical or product that works?
2) And, when fixing something like the ding on the brush guard, do you mask off everything? And how do you keep the small ding from becoming a huge paint F'up? When you can do you sand the area to blend in the height differences? What do you clean the over-spray?
Much thanks, any suggestions are appreciated.
