A local community newspaper carried the story this week of a 16 year old girl who was killed in a rollover accident. This young girl was moving small round bales with her dads tractor and I am assuming a 3PH bale spear. As she was backing towards a bale, the rear tire ran up on a partial bale and flipped the tractor over on her. She was flown by helicopter to a trauma center where she later died. The funeral procession included many of her young friends and family on their tractors. She was an avid FFA member and honor roll student and according to her dad an all-around farm girl. How sad to hear of a young person losing their life in a tragic accident such as this. Please everyone, practice safety at all times.

Tragedy always seems to rear its ugly head when we least expect to see it. Too bad a young girl lost her life in such a senseless accident. My condolences go out to her family and friends.

These stories are far to common, I don't know about your country, but here farm accident statistics are incredible. Many of these accidents are teenage and younger kids, every year there are deaths through farm machines. Grain silos with augers often the culprit. Fortunately since compulsory ROP bars tractor deaths have reduced. I guess there are hazards in what ever we do, but life goes on regardless. Sad story though.

Augers are the primary problem here also. There are an average of 700 farm deaths annually in the US.
About 130 of those are due to tractor rollover. Over 50% were over 60 yrs of age and most were actual farmers or retired farmers. I guess experience tends to make a person lax in safety. The stats I saw did not say, but they were probably using older farm tractors with no ROPS.

Do you mean retired farmers or people who have retired to farming?
