Just a shot in the dark, hoping for some help. My temp warning lamp used to come on (as well as the oil and charge lamp) when switching the ignition to "on". Now it doesn't. When I ground the wire off the sending unit the lamp will light. The shop manual says the the temp lamp relay is bad. I installed a new one and it didn't change anything. If the warning lamp fuse was bad, none of the lamps would work, right? The bulb is ok, and I can ground the relay circuit and the lamp will light. Maybe I'm missing something. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the idea, but... My 1050 is mid 80's vintage. No computers to be found anywhere. And I'm not all that unhappy about that :) Thanks for the reply anyway.

Do yourself a favor and try it and have a cold drink then hook it back up and see what happens, If nothing you can clean your battery terminals.
It wont hurt anything

I just finished re-doing my 1050 and after all the new paint was on the metal I found my ground was not good enough even though the frame connection was cleaned off. I found the problem by taking a set of jumper cables and grounding the frame to the battery along with the regular ground cable. Might be worth a try before you dig deeper. I was having the same problem with the warning lamps as sometimes they would come on with the key and sometimes not-do not forget the temp light should only come on when you are cranking the starter.

ejb, thanks! My charge light always works. My oil light will almost always work, but sometimes I will get a quick flicker. I had forgotten the temp light only comes on when you are cranking it. I get a real quick "blip" while cranking. I think my circuits are ok. You have given another rabbit to chase. When I painted mine a year or so ago, I found a lot a bad grounds. None of the lights worked like they should except the head lights. I fixed them all at the time. I suspect your ground idea may be a good one. Thanks again.
