i have ybr074 terra force tiller that does a great job of tilling but it leaves a ridge at the ends of the tiller. its loose dirt that it piles up at the end. can anyone tell me how to adjust it so it leaves the ground smooth? it has the tailgate with the springs to adjust it. the manual is almost useless. thanks for your help

I cannot help with your problem, but would appreciate your answering a few questions about your YJR074 tiller. I am shopping for a rotary tiller and would like to buy one that is heavier duty than King Kutter, Tractor Supply, etc. but not as expensive as Deere, Landpride, etc. Do you consider the YJR074 to be in that range? I've noticed that many tillers of that size have 9 flanges, the YJR074 only has 7 and the smaller YJR062 has 8 flanges. Do you think affects its performance?

Thanks for your answer.

I would look at the Bush Hog RT60G as one of the considerations.

wjb-49 - MY YJR 074 does great at preparing a good seed bed. If you look close and measure you will find the Tines are bigger and longer than most, so not as many flanges are needed. They are also placed in a spiral pattern so cut smoother.

dwight jr - I am assuming the ridge is what is spilling out the ends of the tail gate. To solve put the big spring under the supports and move the clevis pin up compressing the spring to put down force to keep the tail gate closed (you can also put both springs below the support to get extra down pressure too. play with it a bit and I think you will find a combination that will work. Have the tiller raised off the ground with the tail gate fully closed to do this. This will also cause the seed bed to somewhat compact behind the tiller.

However for me I leave my tail gate somewhat loose and use a landscape rake in my garden and flip my drag harrow over to smooth out large areas such as when I tilled my pasture.
All the tiller I have used will leave a slight ridge at the edge.

BTW - If you fully close the tail gate with a lot of down pressure, the tiller will somewhat level your ground as you go as it will carry dirt forward with it and fill in short low spots like ditches and holes. However it takes more power to do this and be careful of rocks as they dont get thrown out the back as easily.

Hope this helps

Before seeing your reply I had asked Rick Rinehardt of Everything Attachments about this and he confirms the tine size difference. It is also good to know you are pleased with the Terra Force tiller.

Thanks much.
