Anyone run into an issue with a JD dealer who won't sell outside their "territory" or wants a 10% upcharge? The local dealer treated me less than I felt was "good" service, so I started "shopping"...Just felt like the local guy was telling me "I'm the in-town game and your stuck with it"...

No, but the dealers have an "AOR" Area of Responsibility in which they get a discount or rebate back from JD.

Thats awesome....they get a deal on a "local tractor sale" yet still stick it to you with the "I'm the only dealer within reasonable range, so if you want green, pay what I ask"

And people wonder why Kubota moves alot of tractors......

I guess my beef with the situation is that competition is part of a "free market" and results in fair pricing for the consumers. When I buy a new Chevy truck, I have a choice of 5 dealers n a reasonable distance. I choose to deal with the same one (for the last 4 trucks) because they treat me fair on the price, provide good service, appreciate my business. Could I get a better price elsewhere ? maybe. I'm not the guy that beats the salesman down for that last $50..I understand they gotta make a living.
This tractor deal has really soured me on that dealer. I got a price last Friday on what Deere I wanted. I shopped the weekend (Kubota & New Holland) and when I tried calling the deere guy, he didn't call back. I sent him an email on Monday AM, and asked that he call me. Well he calls me Tuesday afternoon. I tell him I am interested in the tractor and want to firm up the new financing that Deere has (0% for 48 months.) He's not familiar with that deal and says let me cal you back. He calls back and says, thats the deal. I said Ok the tractor price is XXXX, he says, well our "prices went up" It's now $1000 more. I'm like, you gotta be kidding me, $1000 in 3 days. He says yes, its a new fiscal year and thats the best I can do.. I was fuming and just said I will call you back. I realize that my little 22,000 purchase is no big deal to these guys now.
I have another dealer that is handling my purchase at a fair price. Picking it up on Saturday AM.
Sorry for the rant, just hate to endure an ordeal to spend my hard earned money...I hope this tractor is worth all this. It's my first new tractor and my first Deere.

Let the market bear what it will...........I would shop out of state. When I bought my last car I bought it in the next state. Why you ask.....because my trade in was $ 1,000.00 more! The only thing that would worry me is if they did not sell you the tarctor they might not be so loving if you would have a warranty issue that would need repaired. If they made money on you at the sale they might act diffrently. In my opinion JD really wire brushed their followers by reducing the number of dealers here in Pennsylvania. Lately I spoke with a dealer in Iowa and his pricing was so much better than that of my local dealer that it was worth the shipping costs!

As the happy owner of a 3520, the best thing I can tell you is to seriously consider Kubota...I say that because spec for spec, Kubota is about the only thing most Deere Dealers see as a fair comparison in both price & machine...Plus Kubota usually has similar offers to match up with Deere on the financing, etc..
Without having some leverage (They can smell it when your not serious about buying another color), its hard to get them to move around...I got them to move around more in the last 1 hour then I did in one month of shopping. I sat down with the Salesman and point blank told them by the end of the day I was writing a check for a 35-37 horse tractor and it was essentially up to him as to whether I took a JD or Kubota home.

I have posted this before but will again. At this point I use one JD dealer for parts-the guys are great and the other for the big stuff--really like the salesman. The saleman is an a hole in the first place and the parts guys in the second place are a holes.

I don't keep trying when someone does not deal with me--it really does not bother me as that is similar to what is found across the board in business. I wanted a green tractor and just keep moving around till I found someone I liked.

texanstraders - welcome to TBN and congrats on your new Deere. (What'd you get anyway?)

Your (almost) salesman is a real gem... Good thing that there's another dealer close by that's more appreciative of your "hard earned dollars"!

It will be interesting to see if; in the future, whether the 1st salesman has learned anything from this transaction and tries to win back some of your business.

No doubt, you'll be lookin' for filters and parts and maybe a new mower, etc in the coming years.

How 'bout some pics?

Best of luck with your new tractor.

Thanks. I did buy the 5303. I am picking it up on monday. (can't wait)..I found a dealer that was very easy to deal with. They are about 60 miles from the house, but they were "straight up" with me and didn't pull the "i'm the only guy in town game". They offered to deliver it and bring all the paperwork to me. I decided to go to the dealer so I can meet the people I will deal with over the life of this tractor and the next one...

Our local dealer is great to deal with, now they only stock L&G and compacts at the Kokomo store, I think they might have a bit more at the other store in Marion. Even though I am keeping a 318 and 316 alive and looking good, they treat me just like the guy that just dropped some coin on a new one. I have all the parts manuals for my two Deeres and confirm the price with JDparts list, then make up a list and drop by the store to order or pickup what I need. I could email me, but I enjoy the chat with the parts guys and I can browse the diecast and new machines while I am there. They even give me a break on the price for having the part numbers I need, saves them time looking it up. I spent the last 8 years living in Erie PA, we lost both the local dealer and the one in Erie itself, had to drive all the way to Edinboro to get JD stuff, thats an hour round trip, thats a fair amount of diesel in my truck. Needless to say, lots of mail order or waiting to make the trip worth while. We had 4 Kubota dealers in Erie county that I knew of. With all the grape vineyards, I saw alot more orange than green. Its totaly opposite now here in Kokomo, lots of green!
