They just delivered our new L2600DT yesterday and we ran it through the paces. Here now are the results. We have 5 acres of heavy underbrush mixed in with all sizes of Oak,Dogwood,Cedar and Redbud trees.I had cut up some 2 foot round oak trees down at the bottom of a hill into 2 foot logs.Test 1(Get the logs up the hill) My wife gets on the tractor and meets me at the bottom where I loaded the Front End Loader with 4 full logs,I dont know the weight but let me say it was extremely heavy. She rolls back the bucket and lifts it a foot off the ground and takes off with load up the hill and has it dumped before my back was even rested. In 20 minutes we had one full sized oak tree up the hill and stacked. The tractor never even wobbled bobbled or groaned or strained.
Test 2 (Knock Down Trees)I was curious about what size trees the tractor could knock over and as I was pondering the situation,my wife jumps on tractor lifts the loader about 2 foot off the ground and proceeds to take out about a 1 inch oak sappling. It went down without any fight at all like it wasnt even there. My wife turns and gives me an ear to ear grin. Then she proceeds to about a 2 inch tree. She starts to push on it when the rear tires started to spin.(The ground was a litlle damp.)She pushes in the clutch and pulls up on the 4x4 handle engaging the 4 wheel drive ,lets the clutch out and the tree was history. So we spent a couple of hours playing Rambo on about a acre of underbrush and 1to3 inch trees.Test3(Brush Hogging)After about a half hour of wrestling with the brushhog trying to get it attatched(never had a tractor before)I took off to grind up everthing we knocked over.I knew this was more dangerous to bystanders so my wife took off to pick up our Daughter from school.I got to the area, lowered the implement, engaged the Pto,let out the clutch and the brush hog whirreled to life. Now I know the difference between a single stage and 2 stage clutch.I pushed in the clutch to select a gear and the brush hog starts winding down.I select 1st gear let out the clutch, the tractor starts moving and the brush hog winds up.I rev up to to the PTO indicator on the tach and blister along at about .8 mph.Okay wrong gear but I wasnt gonna stop and do it over again so I inched along getting used to everything. Then I noticed I was dragging the front of the brush hog in the dirt and leaving a trench behind me.I raised it up so the front was even with the back and proceeded to the first brush. The first brush was just under growth and I went through it like it wasnt even there.Next I headed for the one inch tree and I noticed a pronounced chopping noise and even felt it ever so slightly. When Looked back it was completely gone.Next I headed for the 2 inch tree and when I hit it I definetley knew it was there. The bush hog growled and chopped the tree into bits of nothing. It didnt like the 3 inch tree as much as the others. There was more of a banging noise and less of a chopping noise so I think a 3 inch tree maybe a little to much for it.But even the 3 inch tree didnt phase the tractor. When I got done playing with the bush hog I headed to the pole barn to take it off.Thats when I noticed that I had sent a rock flying right into the side of the building and left an impressive dent.I will get a chain guard before I brush hog again.Test 4(Playing in the dirt)We built a 30x60 pole barn last year and when all was done there was was alot dirt mounds and rough soil all around it.All I did yesterday was knock down some of the mounds and try to smooth out the dirt a little. It wasnt much of a test.I drove right into the first mound and got to my surprise almost a full bucket of dirt. The tractor drove the bucket right into the mound and loader lifted the bucket of dirt without any stuggle at all.I just started backing up and emptying bucket to spread out the dirt.I have a box blade to play with in the next couple of days. Now here is what I think of my purchase.
1.Power 27 Hp - I never got to anything yet that even came close to lugging the Motor.Low range gearing gives this tractor alot of muscle.
2.Single Stage Clutch-Probably the one thing that I will have to get used operating.Im sure with practice I'll get better at operating this type setup.
3.Front end loader LB400A-What can I say except that I absolutley love it.Its powerfull, rugged and very easy to operate.
4.Bush Hog 5foot-I think any brush 2inch and under is gonna get munched.I may cut bigger but 3 inch seemed a little big.
Maybe I'm just babying it,maybe not.
5.Four wheel drive-absolutley a must,what a difference between 2 and 4.More than I expected
6. Price-This is why I chose this tractor and this dealer. Here is what I Paid.
L2600DT-4WD-LB400A Front end loader-5foot Brush Hog-5foot box blade-16 foot tandem axle trailer- $16,000.00
I bought this setup in West Plains,Missouri from Edgeller&Harper
I told them what I wanted to do and they sold me only what they thought I needed. So far I'm extremley satisfied and think that they hit the nail on the head.
Thanks for reading my garble and would like to hear any responses. by the way I also got a new hat!!!
