Texaco Novatex EP \"0\"/Thurbin 250 or Mobil Hecia?

Has anyone heard of these lubricants? I tried Texaco website but nothing. Is this "grease" or "lube oil"?

Or can anyone come up with an equivalent?

I'll be needing some in the future for a new gearbox mounted on a new rotary cutter... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Texaco Novatex EP \"0\"/Thurbin 250 or Mobil Hec

Hi John:

Here's a link to the Texaco products. Interestingly, although these are "branded" as Texaco products, get the following from the Texaco website:

"Please note that ChevronTexaco is not affiliated with Motiva Enterprises LLC and Equilon Enterprises LLC, or with Texaco-branded products Motiva and Equilon market in the United States.

For information and links to products and services marketed by Motiva and Equilon, please visit: http://www.texacous.com"

Using that link, I found the product index below, which has PDF files for the lubes you're looking for:
http://www.havolineusa.com/texacoproducts/

Note -- Thurbin should be Thuban, which is a family of straight weight mineral oils.

I couldn't find a thing about the Mobil product.

Best Regards,
Jay

Hi Jay,

I got the "Thurbin" from an old photocopied manual {misspelled} and I since had gotten a response from Texaco email and phone call...

It is an older product and has been replaced by another 250 wt. gear oil... that is rare on the shelves... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I do appreciate your help though... I've been meaning to ask you, how do you like your Fred Cain rotary cutter? Do you have any picture you can post of it... I think that brand is mostly regional in the south/sw area...

Thanks again Jay...

The next question is, where the hell do they come up with these names for lubrication products?!?!? :)

John:

I missed your comments on the Fred Cain mower. I've attached a pic I found on the net -- not mine, but all the single-spindle mowers look exactly the same. The size just changes.

Basically, these are about as ugly a mower as you've find. Very shoddy [albeit thick] paint jobs, too -- mine has "drip lines" on one whole end. However, they are fairly bulletproof. I've never mic'ed one, but comparing them next to the heavy Bush Hog models at the dealer, the decks look a bit thicker and the bracing on the top is comparable. My 60in mower priced out about $75 cheaper than the light duty Bush Hog model!

I have only a few dents in the sides from hitting some super big rocks hidden in some deep weeds. The blades might need replacement, but it would be hard to wear out the deck, and in the 5 years the dealer has been carrying the line, they've never once had to open up a gear box, even on the multi-spindle models or behind the bigger tractors. Also, I like having no chains on the back, which seem to get in your way when you've going backwards over heavy brush.

Anyway, hope that satisfies your curiosity.

Best Regards,
Jay
