Well the only person on here I know is from Texas is Bird...I'm sure there are others. Just wondering if you are following the NHL playoffs as the Dallas Stars are playing our boys (Edmonton Oilers) /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Not quite like "the good old days" when Gretzky and Kurri used to keep us entertained, but I must say that was a pretty good hockey game last night....even if the Oilers did lose /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif.

Here's hoping for a close series and good hockey!

Kevin; I'm not from Texas, but I do kinda follow hockey. Skated for an 'amateur' league back in the early 80's (we had all our games broadcast on a Washington, DC sports station). Skated for a team called the Stars. (Use to spend a lot of time on business in Minneapolis - Saint Paul back then). I still have my old 'Stars' uniforms (Keep hoping one day one of my boy's will fill 'em). So, I got some sentimental values on this one. Outside of the Capitals, I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Stars, no matter where they reside. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Kevin, there are quite a number of us in Texas; can't remember all the names, but fishman, Alan L, ErnieB, and sorry that right now I don't remember all the other names. And of course I did hear the sportcaster on the TV news talking about the Stars vs. Oilers game, but I guess I'm an eccentric character in some ways. I've just never had much interest in most of the sports, so I don't keep up with them or pay much attention to sportcasters; just occasionally watch a game on TV if I don't have anything else to do (which ain't often). Many years ago I used to work most of the Cowboy games before they moved to Irving, and I used to go to the Texas Ranger games every once in awhile, worked at one soccer game when the team was new in Dallas, and have never even attended any of the others.

I'm watching all the games with great interest! But I have to go with the Penguins! My brother was with the team in the haydays of the 90's (he has two Stanley cup rings) I even got to see and hoist the cup! But the AV's are going to be hard to beat.

I went to the last regular home game for the STARS and they looked pretty sharp. The new stadium is coming along and Reunion Areas is seeing the last games to be played by the Stars, by next season the Stars will be relocated to the new arena. The Dallas fans are fired up that the Stars are working their way to another shot at the Stanley Cup.
Sorry Kight9 but I think they are going to take the Oilers again. They may not make it all the way but that are playing their ugly style of hockey very well right now.
GO STARS /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif!!!!!!!!

Hi Randy,

Sadly I'm inclined to agree with your analysis that Dallas will defeat the Oilers. I'm just hoping that the Oil at least make a real series of it...and based on the first game it looks promising.

Might go to game 4 here. A buddy won tickets...all the series one tickets sold out here in under 3 hours. If I do go, all of you be sure to watch it on TV...maybe I'll try and take in a "Tractorbynet.com" sign /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif!!

Well, its coming to Edmonton with the series tied. Another pretty good game with a much better outcome /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. The rink will be rocking here tomorrow night that is for sure!! It can get pretty loud in there. And the playoffs....well that will pretty much raise the volume to "deafening".

You know if some of you guys were closer we could have had a friendly wager on this...something like the loser mows the winners lawn for a month! No wait....tractor time is a good thing....that wouldn't work /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Sorry not a hockey fan. San Antonio does have a minor league team called the Iguanas. When they first came here, a popular local sportscaster Dan Cook speculated that it wouldn't last. Dan had grown up in Northern climes and had played some hockey in his youth. He reasoned that hockey is something one has to grow up with in order to be a fan. He figured South Texans would veiw it as a novelty that would wear off pretty quick.
That was about 7 or 8 years ago and the iguanas are still going and attracting crowds. Go figure. Oh btw, Dan Cook is credited with coining the phrase "it ain't over til the fat lady sings." As far as the Iguanas are concerned the fat lady has not yet sung.

Kevin,
Last nights game sure was exciting, at least when the Oil decided to make a game of it in the last 2 minutes of regulation./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif But how many time can the Oil keep getting gut punched like they did last night and keep coming back. Dallas is just too experienced for the Oil, especially in overtime. But I do have to say the games are NOT boring and it is always an intense rivalry. So enjoy the series, I sure am.

Randy,

"Gut punched" is a good way of saying it...and it's not just the Oilers themselves....but all us poor fans!! I hate losing in overtime. Ouch. Well hopefully we can split here too and go back to Dallas tied in the series. No doubt Dallas is a good team. Got to appreciate the talent of guys like Modano. Although he had a personal shadow last night /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Dare I say...."Go Oilers, Go!" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
