JOHN DEERE 6403
Howdy folks, i am a new guy here and really am looking for a attachment for our John Deere tractor that we can pull behind to make ditches besides our hwy's over here in West Texas. Not deep ones, just enough to make the rain water drain faster. Unfortunately we do have some rock or what we call Caliche in some areas along the highways. By the way, i work for Txdot and this more of a experiment to see what is out there to add to our John Deere 6403 to make it more efficient work wise.

Your right, use the right tool for the job but, due to budget restrictions....heavy sigh...try to get a attachment if possible that might work low price. Have been looking at them grader blades attachments and the Dirt Dog Middle Busters plows at the other websites and those two look promising, just have to pick the right one.

I hear you on the budget restrictions but when it comes down to a cost per mile of work done right then a motor grader will win every time assuming a competent operator. They are powerful , flexible and won't break down the first time you drag over some Caliche. The JD 6403 needs a field to till not a road to grade.

No road work for our JD 6403, just use it for bat wing mowing sometimes and to pull a herbicide trailer. Want to see if we can put more work hours on it, and one of the ideas that came up is maybe it can be use in some sections of our area where it is not rocky to just experiment with a grader blade with rippers attachment to augment periods of when our missing grader is gone. In theory it should work on our right of ways where there is only soil. I appreciate all the information from this forum and members.

Well any of the good box blades would provide the rippers and a 6403 can handle the biggest of them but if you want to pull ditches a back blade with a top and tilt attachment would certainly work.
