Tractor
54 ford NAA
I've been monitoring this forum every day for the past two weeks because I was torn between the 3400 (price) and the 4400 (power). I couldn't seem to reconcile the two.
I have a 60 acre farm in the western mountains of Maine and it's half fields and half woods. (...and mostly rocks). We don't have any livestock other than the deer, moose, bear, and turkeys that wander onto the place so there's no manure to handle. I do have a 1/2 mile of dirt road to keep up and a couple hundred feet of driveway.
It seems every year a few more trees come down and I spend my whole summer cutting up trees and dumping everything I can't burn in the woods. I spend the fall on the iron seat of my 54 ford Naa bush hogging 20 acres of hilly fields to keep them from being overrun with pine...and the alders are closing in. In my spare time I plow and shovel snow.
I've decided on the 4400 dt with FEL, Q/A bucket, and Woods BH90 backhoe with mech thumb. With Maine sales tax it will run about 31k for the package but I think they'll throw in a Q/A set of forks.
Thanks everyone for all the great discussions and I'll keep you posted...with photos.

Smart choice, case, I think you'll be very happy with that combination. I've got 50 acres and have virtually the same tractor (L4300, older version of the 4400) along with the Woods BH90X and am quite happy with it. Only thing is that, if you use the hoe a lot, you'll soon be wantin' a second tractor. Hope you kept the Ford.

The Woods hoe is fairly strong and will push the L4400 around a bit. Ask your dealer what he thinks about filling the rears for extra stability.

I've also got a grapple thingy on the FEL bucket. Got it from these guys:
the W e s L o r group....Excellence in Metal Processing
They call it the Brush Claw. It's not too heavy, so I leave it on all the time. Probably too light for moving phone poles all day, but lots of help when moving brush around.

Looking forward to your pictures.
Bob

Hey Bob,
We think alike...I'm keeping the Ford to tend the Kabota and I've gone with the loaded rears.
I hope to take lots of photos

Welcome to Tractorbynet. Glad to have you join us. And I think you're getting a very good tractor.

hey there casemaker and escavader, glad to see more locals on here. I have a 05 Kioti DK-35 with the KB2385, i am clearing a wooded lot. I have been seroiusly considering trading up to a DK-45S and getting a woods BH90-X. Anyone outhere know if there a noticible difference between the KB2385 and the BH90-X when stumping.
