The design you are describing sounds more robust than on my machine. The weak point on my machine is the (5) 3.5" studs. The dual wheel adapter is, in effect, a fairly long lever arm and any contact of the outside dual wheel with a solid obstruction--like a tree trunk when working around trees--puts enough stress on the stud(s) to overstress them leading to breakage. PT gets $6 per stud and I have replaced a bunch of them over time-including one that broke below the surface of the hub mounted to the motor and was very difficult to remove.
If you have to remove wheels sometime in the future and could take pictures I would greatly appreciate it.
