That front wheel torque thing....

I am over 100 hours. I haven't been needing to tighten my front wheel bolts for a while.

But I decided to dish my wheels out. They were dished in, and I didn't really like it. So I switched them, and am happy with them being wider.

I was curious if I would start up the loosening bolt syndrome, and it has. I will sure keep an eye on them. OK, never mind the eye, I'll check them with my wrench. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Should I use LockTite?

What R tires do you have? I had a 4310 with R3 tires. I switched my fronts out as well. Felt much better on the hills. When I put on my 60" MMM it rubbed on one of the tires. I had to switch the tires back in.

I now have a 4410 with R4 tires and the 72" mower. I think I can switch my tires out now. I have not as yet. I talked to Deere when I had the 4310 and they said Deere doesn't recommend turning the R3 or R4 front tires out. They stated axle or bearing strain.

What are your thoughts?

I have R1s, both the R1s and R3s are listed as 2 position, while the R4 are 1 position. The manual sure doesn't caution against the wide position, and my dealer didn't, either.

I am afraid that advice may have been an easier answer than trying to explain why the mower wouldn't fit.

I doubt that you will be told that it is OK to switch the R4s. That is why i kept my R1s. I had ordered the R4s but they got mixed up. I really like the R1s and the ability to adjust them...

R4s have their own advantages, I am sure...

I have a 4400, with R-3, and a MMM. You can not use the wide position without hitting the deck! JD was of little help! Doesn't make sence not to be able to use turff tires with a MMM, in that position. JD chaged axel design mid way through and use it on the 10 series to help with scuffing. They changed the MMM brackets to move MMM back but the tires still hit in wide position. If you move the MMM to the rear mounting holes, the front bracket is too short. I drilled a hole center of existing two holes and the tires still hit deck, but only at full cramp and not by much. They were (are) aware of this but don't want to admit it. Their paperwork (they don't want out) says there will be rubbing of certain tire and positions with MMM.

CAUTION:
Please inspect front wheels carefully before reversing them. I had an instance where we did that to a 4710 on R1 tires before delivery, as everything states them to be a 2 position wheel. Not until AFTER the wheel came off while the customer was driving down a snowy hill, did we find out that the wheel was truly not a 2 position wheel, and did not have the chamfer (?) on both sides for the bolt to hold the wheel tight. (the area around the bolt hole is countersunk for the tapered part of the wheel bolt to sit in) Needless to say, the customer was a bit unhappy with the situation.
The ironic part of this, to me, is the customer owns a tire repair shop, with signs all over his shop that state "RE TORQUE WHEEL BOLTS AFTER 50 MILES"
maybe he didn't figure a tractor was the same, even though he drives several miles on the roads between his snowplowing jobs.

I backed a bolt out to check, and wouldn't you know it... I had them correct! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The bolts were in chamfered holes...

Sure appreciate the warning, as that was not due to my competence...
