The Best Wally World Syn. Diesel Oil?

Know what GSXR1100 thinks, but between the MOBIL 1 5-40 Truck oil and the Rotella 5-40 Syn. which has the best numbers?

Whats the difference between CH-4 rating and a CI-4?

No wars please only the facts, if Wally stocks a better Syn. let me know.

Now M1 comes in a five quart for under $20.00 I might switch.

CI-4 is the newest HD diesel engine oil spec. It's designed for HD diesel engines that thanks to EPA-mandated controls now require EGR systems.

The biggest problem running EGR in a large 6 cylinder diesel motor is the massive soot you introduce back into the motor. The CI-4 is reformulated with extra detergents to help control the soot.

CH-4 is a slightly older spec that also is supposed to deal with EPA-mandated emissions redesign, primarily the design of the piston. This is an extension of the first such controls from the early 90's.

Rotella and Mobil are pretty close but Rotella has more Ca, P, a higher VI, but lower TBN. But as you would expect Mobil has a lower Pour, higher Flash and less ash. Is not Mobil Suv the same as Delvac 1?

If you are running normal drains I would start off with Mobil and go from there. But that is me; cheaper too. But then again, they are group 3 oils too.

No wars. You can look up the stats on Mobil and I think you will find it is a better diesel oil than Rotella. However, Shell has done an absolute phenominal job of marketing their Rotella oil to PowerStroke owners. That was their primary market, and they struck gold. It is an inexpensive oil that targets PowerStroke owners. If you want an inexpensive oil and to use what most PowerStroke owners use, go for the bargain.

I more tend to believe independent lab results and even what I read on BITOG. Rotella is one of the cheapest oils, not one of the best.

Shell's primary market for Rotella is Ford Powerstrokes? I have no statistics to back this up, but I would be surprised if Powerstrokes constitute 5% of the market for that oil, considering that class 8 operators and off-road equipment use it extensively.

I believe Delvac1 is more...in price like around 30 per gallon and T&SUV for $20/5 qts. Go figure when you look at the numbers they are the same.

High price for Delvac since I get Amsoil series 3000 for less then the Delvac price....

And yes I messed up, Rotella is only a 3 and Mobil Truck and SUV (Delvac1) is a PAO (group 4) .

Sorry Mobil drive clean was sticking in my head for some odd reason.

There is a world of difference between these two oils. I'd go with M1 T&SUV in a heartbeat. It's one of the all time best oils made. (basically same as Delvac 1)

Rotella is a good oil but it's only a Group III. (ie fake synthetic)
