This has been a very wet spring and now it has finally warmed up, the Buffalo Gnats are making everyone miserable. They even had a piece on the local news about the gnats being so bad they are chasing off the golfers.

Went Wal-Mart to get some new head nets and they were sold out, so were gonna have to make do with our old ones. The wife is allergic to the bite of them, so she has to bundle up to keep from getting bit or she swells up. Wearing a head net gets old but it beats the alternative. I will be glad when their breeding cycle is over.

I hate our black flies - cousins to your buffalo gnats - but sounds like your gnats are a bit more vicious than ours. You generally can't feel our flies biting, but they do leave a very itchy welt that once you start scratching, it's game over :)

Around Mother's Day is when our come out and stay until we have warm spell, which brings out the skeeters. After them, the deer flies take over. Deer flies have very little DEET sensitivity, so I think they are the worst of the bunch here.
Dave.

The Buffalo Gnat is so bad in some areas of the state that they are killing livestock, mainly chickens. Their breeding cycle should be over around the 1st of June.
