JD 750
Hello!
I need help...
After two hours of plowing and back-blading my driveway on my JD 750 after a big snowfall the other day I was just finishing up when the clutch just stopped working. It felt as if a spring had popped off and it had lost almost all its resistance and it is not working at all. And I have never had any clutch issues on this very nice and reliable tractor. I was able to limp back to the garage by putting it in gear with the engine off, but it was sketchy. And now I can now push down the clutch with my pinky! it does come back up to its proper position, but has no resistance when pushed down. I know clutches usually stop working gradually, as they slip, but this is not what happened. And I really don't want to haul it off to a mechanic if it's an easy fix. Does anyone have any idea what happened? I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Harry

All the linkage look good? Can you adjust it at all?

It's ok that why your here is for help and understanding of your JD. No worries buddy! Well if it was working fine and just stopped then something of course gave way. You don't feel and resistance in clutch when pushing down and linkage is fine then it is internal. The fork that moves collar to engage clutch could have broken and won't do anything now. Will pto still engage? I'm not home right now or I would look it up. Just doing it from memory been awhile since I've done a clutch in that model

Your JD 750 is a Yanmar product, and I've had 2 of them apart, they were both setup the same inside. Their is a fork that disengages the clutch and there are 2 springs that keep pressure on this fork to keep the clutch engaged. Either that fork is broken or the springs slipped off that fork would explain no tension on the clutch peddle. Either way, it's going to take a tractor split at the bell housing for repair. If you have to go through the trouble to split the tractor ( it's not to bad of a job if you have some basic tools and a cherry picker, and lots of caution with both halfs of the tractor while it's split ) I'd recommend getting and installing a new pilot bearing, throwout bearing, clutch and pressure plate. For all of the wrenching you are about to do ( or have done ) it's logical to change all of this at this time to prevent having to split the tractor again at a later date. Also, check the splined coupling on the transmission driveshaft when it's split for wear, these are often a reason to split the tractor as well, Hoye tractor should have these parts in stock. Also something to look at when you have your tractor this far down is to remove the flywheel and check the bolts that attach the bell housing to the motor. John Deere and Yanmar use the bell housing as part of the tractor for a frame, and they sometimes the mounting bolts come loose or are stripped out by overloading, good thing to also look at while apart. Good luck,
Chris
