Just replaced the coil, plug, oil, filter..air and fuel filters. Replaced the ig coil thinking that was the issue since it appears to be heat related. Set the coil gap to 0.010. Maybe its fuel related, but fuel can be seen in the filter as it starts to hiccup before just dying. Is there something else in the ignition system that might be heat related? Does this engine have a set of points/condenser?

thanks-baffled...

As soon as it shuts down, from whatever the issue is. Pull the drain plug from the fuel bowl, if there is one, and see how much fuel if any comes out. If it has fuel. Let it sit, then start it again. Let it run until it dies. Check for spark right away. That will narrow things down for you, a little bit.

Could be mice damage - follow the wire loom from the dash to the battery and to the engine. Look for a nest / chewed wires. Dried out fuel line can suck air and shut you down. Your spark plug coil can be failing. Chewed wire can be hitting metal and shutting you down. Leaves or other floaters in gas tank can be sucked down and block the fuel outlet. Or maybe you got one of those 10-minute oil changes and the engine thinks it should provide equal time?

I assume that this is a Courage engine w/ a rear fuel tank? First thing to know is that the fuel tank is venting. Second is if the anti- backfire solenoid below the carb still has it's rubber tip on it , is working correctly and the ground strap is in place . Whilst you are in there, do you see water or debris in the bowl? You could verify if you have an safety / wiring problem by unhooking the kill wire from the coil, putting the shroud on and doing a test run. You don't say if it happens to restart and how it runs then.

Remove the air cleaner and get a can of starting fluid. When the tractor starts to die, spray a shot of starting fluid into the mouth of the carburetor. If the engine catches and speeds up you have a fuel supply problem. If the starting fluid makes no difference you have an electrical or ignition problem.

Yes, this one of the famous Courage engines. 19 hp, single cyl around 700cc I think.

Well, I think it must be a fueling issue. When it began to stumble/cut-out, I pulled back on choke about 1/2 way and it continued to run..slowly. Added some seafoam yesterday and maybe that is beginning to help? Maybe a rebuild kit for the carb is in order? Best place to purchase one?

thanks!

Had a similar problem with my Case 195, after warming up would quit running. Did a compression check and discovered the valves were leaking the valve lash on the intake was near zero. After warming up became zero+ and would not even run with a shot of gasoline down the spark plug hole with a healthy spark at the spark plug.

With the valve adjustment so out of whack the little Kohler engine just could not make enough manifold vacuum to draw fuel into the cylinder to make a fire.

Readjusted the valve lifters and now the engine runs as new.

Run it with the gas cap loose .

posts 4 .7 and 8 are fast starting spots, yes the courage motors love to loose valve adjustments and cause issues. to tight they stop running hot to loose they crank over like a bad battery or stater motor.
i've had all the issues the others posted with my 2008 lt 1050. a mud wasp filled the fuel cap vent hole with mud one time, others were found to be valve adjustment issues.
