the day from \'heck\'
Had one of those days where you wish you had a 'smarter & stronger' stunt double take over right whent he alarm clock went off.
Got to work.. and somebody had been in messing with the computers at the office that weekend.. 2 out of the 3 computers in our area were in various stages of OS problems.. back pc is a 98 job.. and is still casters up.. havn't had tiome to look at it. My pc is on xp and had a password and was not messed with.. except that the monitor and keyboard were situated so as to think someone tried to sit down and use the pc. Back office pc.. an xp machine 'seemed' ok.. but our main acocuting software would not start. Spend the next hour trying my own troubleshooting on the software.. then spent the next 3 hours with the software tech people, microsoft, and the pc manufacturer tech people. By 3:30pm we decided it was a 60% possible it was a hardware issue and 40% that it was a software issue that was making xp weird.. but in any case.. the accounting package didn't like it. Even tried n updated version. Reinstall all software.. still no go.. Ran out in desperation and grabbed an 'off the shelf' pc a tthe closest store ( circuit city) and started setting it up.. for some reason it didn't like our MFC printer.. but that was taken care of after a few reboots and manual driver instalation.. then got work software installed.. upgraded.. migrated the database over.. upgraded the database.. and by 6:00pm last night.. actually started the work software for the first time yesterday. Whole office was basically in a holding pattern yesterday... Didn't know it at the time.. but still had 3 more hours of configuring to get the printer back talking to the software, and to get our custom forms set back up. ( ARGH! )..
Went home tired and worn out yesterday.. Was cleaning the horse stalls in the dark... as i headed out to the maneuer pile, one of the front tires onthe 'big' wheel barrow went flat.. no tube.. and bead broke. Tried the rope trick and an inflator.. but no go. Went to remove cotter pin on axle to remove wheel.. and cotter pin broke flush in the axle. Pin punch was no good. Went to get drill.. and figured I'd just break the 'hard' bit in the cotter key hole and then be really scr--ed.. Took tir into shop.. tried a couple belts this time and got the tire inflated... was at a quandry as to how to keep the tire on.. ended up, again, in desperation, using a metal hose clamp and tightened it down on the axle to keep the wheel on and get the maneuer out to the pile. it worked... and for all i care.. it may stay like that...
Got cleaned up.. ate a little something an got to be late.. And i'm beat today. Came in early and worked for another 2 hours just trying to get some of yesterdays back log under controll so i could get todays stuff going again... (sheesh)
