Yesterday I watched my favorite movie again:

Now, I am fully aware of the potential of .22LR - not mentioning the additional power of mercury in the bullet - but in real life I think I would prefer centerfire and bigger calibre.

AFAIK rimfire ammo is not as reliable as centerfire and shooting 150 yards or so - I would not bet on .22 here.

Just to emphasise, I am not an assassin - my only interest is balistics here

What do you think about the weapon Jackal is using?

Perhaps not a long rifle in .22, but a semi auto pistol in .22, behind the persons head, about 3', three shots in rapid succession should do the trick. No recoil, and with a sound suppressor on that caliber, with any "side noise" you couldn't hear it if you wanted to.

Somewhat funny because I was in a "debate" here on this forum about what caliber you would use if you had to put your pet down. I was strongly agaisnt using a .22 on a dog to the head due to the issues of a "quick kill". On some two legged creatures though, could be the trick.

I'd haphazzard a guess and say more people are killed in a year with a .22 (accidents) than any other caliber. Could be wrong.

I've never looked at the balistics of a .22LR before, but would think it's dropping like a rock at a hundred yards. 150 yards would be pure luck.

Not only is the bullet droping, but the wind will have a huge affect on where it ends up.

Now a .22 caliber bullet in a centerfire cartridge is a totally different story.

As to the effectiveness of killing with a .22LR, I'll tell you that it's used allot to hunt Moose with in Canada. Mostly the Indians use it since they don't have hunting seasons or restrictions. They just shoot a moose in the ribs and let it sufficate from the hole in it's lungs. The best part is the moose never knows he's been shot and will just keep on eating or doing what he was already doing.

My family is Canadian, and I've heard this story so many time from different relitives and people I've met all over the country, that I tend to believe it.

Yes, Eddie, thats about what I was thinking too. Few years ago the DC snipers used .223 (Bushmaster XM-15)

Now that was scary time; I actually was very close to one of the shooting. Just finished at Lowe's loading two sheets of drywall on the top of a station wagon and passed the crime scene on my way home right in time to see police cars arriving:

My memory of the book was that it was a centerfire cartridge. My memory of the movie is the same. But I've not seen the movie in years, and it's been even longer for the book.

I dont even remember when I read the book last time, but I checked the movie again and on 46:50 there is a detail of the ammo - when the gunsmith shows rounds with mercury in it - and as far as I can tell, it looks like 22.

But I may be mistaken - it happen before in my life at least once

What ammo is that? It seems to be bit too long for 22LR to me, what do you think?

.22 Hornet? Centerfire, but still a rimmed case if I recall. Over triple the power at 100 yards of a standard 22LR. 150 yards is well within bounds.
