And I am with you on the scope. With newly mounted scope I start on 25 yards with a big piece of paper behind the target. But afaik - from the book - the gunsmith was working with a factory build rifle and the scope could be mounted on it already.

But as I stated earlier - I like the movie a lot and watch it once or twice a year.

Best read the book. Far better than the movie. The gunsmith had rifle zero'ed in.
