I just saw this on a FB group I belong to. Putting this here for discussion. Seems like a really easy build and it seems like it could be a pretty useful tool. I do think its usefulness is greater if used with a CLT or skidsteer. You could make it bolt onto the SSQA plate so you could reuse the plate for other purposes. What to you all think about this?

I’m not certain I understand.

I haven’t ever encountered a situation where I couldn’t get the bucket to reach out far enough, but I had vertical clearance.

If it’s intended for a CTL, then I’d think most users would have access or, funds to rent, a mini ex or backhoe and just use the hoe to shovel the material where needed.

It could be nice for backfilling piles or the like, I will say that.

I ain’t saying it’s a bad idea, just that I don’t see how it’s widely practical.

I think it is more for dumping into an area not as wide as a 60" or so bucket. Dumping into a trench, around landscaping, in a single tire track, etc. That is where I see the usefulness.

This one in the picture is a version made by a company. But I think this would be a pretty easy build. As long as you were scooping gravel or dirt out of a freshly dropped pile a regular metal 55 gallon barrel would last a while. Maybe use a big "washer" out of 3/8" steel at the bottom to bolt through and the barrel would last long enough IMO. Or you could get your hands on a chuck of big ol pipe and make it even stronger.

I guess you could chain a barrel or pipe to forks and do about the same thing

I did exactly that. Only problem was I sued a plastic drum, instead of a steel one. It didn't last but for one job.
