The high cost of tractors

The dealer I'm buying from does not have to deal with the tax. But since I am taking advantage of the financing deal, there's a paper trail all the way back to my state, so I will send in a payment to cover a "Use Tax", which equals the sales tax I would have otherwise paid, minus .5%, in this case.

"If" I end up going HST, I will most likely go with the BoBcat dealer that offered to "drop" 2 units off at My place for the weekend. The Bobcat dealers are very "stable" and have "2nd to none" service operations, after all they lease/rent/sell hundreds of skid steers and and Excavators.

I think Wertz has been in business for about 50 years. Family owned. Third generation now running the place (looks to be 30 something). So, I'd say they are stable. Nice enough people. Medium sized dealer, I would guess. I'm sure they are just trying to make a living but don't move the volume to compete with the bigger dealers on price. That said, Wallace has done things for me that I'm not so sure that Wertz would have done. So far, I'm happy with the long distance purchase.

I haven't seen the bobcat loader. But photos of it make it look kinda wimpy. Maybe it's the white paint. I know it specs out about the same as the KL130 though.

But, I do hate Bobcat's color scheme (not that that would be a reason not to buy). Never liked white on any heavy equipment. To me, white machines look "old" as soon as you get them dirty.... at least from a distance.

I don't know if you care or not, but Delaware is only a few miles from PA and has no sales tax. Plenty of tractor dealers, too.

Talked to the owner on the phone, He WAS helpful and gave me his time.
But as he said they are in an "upper Crust" area . . .

My property is now AG (forest Mng program) so I am hoping there is no sales tax in MD ?

Are you saying that if your property is zoned AG, and assessed AG, then you don't have to pay sales tax on AG related stuff? Is that true even if not operating a farm as a business?

We just bought our property in August, it is zoned NAR in Cecil County, and we are in the process of getting re-assessed (for tax purposes) as AG, since we are "farming" over 5 acres, and have 5 head of livestock (Cecil county thresholds).

I just bought my tractor today in DE, and one reason was to save sales tax, but this would still be useful knowledge.
