Well,
I ordered a control cable for the 44 snow caster this afternoon
since the other one is frozen up.
I went through my 4th shear pin this afternoon and I decided
enough was enough after spending $2.80+tax on shear pins and
self locking nuts that go with them and I used grade 5 1-1/2 inch long 1/4 inch
bolts and nuts with blue loctite.
Seems like a slip clutch for this beast would be a better option as you
do not realise you have a broken pin until you see a small hill of snow
on one or both sides of the chute. A slip clutch would be easy enough
to do for sure.
AS it was near dark I decided to fix it, so it is one less thing to have do tommorow.
I ended up using a hammer and punch to clear the slugs of the shear bolts that were
stuck in the cross shafts.
I decided then that I was goig to see how it behaved with the heavy packed snow I
deal with and it worked well. Its just time consuming to deal with this when you are
trying to get to your wood pile with a trailer to bring back firewood as the ground
is almost frozen and the snow is dense.
I guess I will raise it up a quarter of an inch or so tommorow to see how well it does.
I still have to put the front chains on to make it stop skidding when the blower is down-More on that later.
I will be ordering the pneumatic casters from caster city on Wed. and by then I shoud have
the light mounted on the blower itself; you cannot see SH*& when the blower is raised
and the headights are on.
