I had to remove an old cistern in the front yard as it was above ground in spots and messing up the yard. I ended up breaking up most of it with a 14# sledge hammer. The backhoe did most of the digging and the last to wall sections I used the hoe to wiggle them loose and lift them out. It was too tough to break up and I was beat by that time. :) Being a Geezer I don't have the stamina I used to have. That tractor saved me from a stroke probably. :)

The cistern was a octagon and each wall was 3' long so it left a fair sized hole to fill. The pictures don't show the first 3 sides I broke up and hauled off. One picture is just the seasonal creek flowing pretty decent so far. Another is Sage the supervisor. She keeps me lined out. :)

I must admit - for whatever reason - Sage looks a bit concerned. That cistern looks heavy enough to have been a bomb shelter. Those walls look to be 6"+ thick. Formed out on the inside, poured to the outside dug hole.

Sage was concerned we were working past noon and she hadn't had her treat yet. :) The last 2 walls were 8-10" thick which is why I couldn't break them.
