faster, or lower rpm to go 'stock' speed.
IE.. if you are mowing and it's too fast, you are limited in how you drop the rpm, because cut suffers as blade tip speed drops, and you might get out of the power zone on the pto.
thus in some applications, you might have to drop a gear that you normally wouldn't. All depends on what you are doing.
