Well, I just picked up my new 1643 today.

I was reading through the owner's manual and just had a few questions for 1600 series owners. To preface, I've never owned a diesel tractor (just low horsepower International machines from the 40's, 50's, & 60's. They were all gasoline. All less than 22hp...you know Cubs, 100's, 140's.) And to end the preface, I've got plenty of common knowledge regarding machines but dropping more than $20K on a tractor kind of makes me second-guess myself on some operations. Funny how the money does that type of thing, lol.

1.) The manual notes to adjust the throttle to half-to-wide open when starting the tractor. Well, the few time's I've been on the machine I've always started it at "idle". I have noticed quite a bit of smoke that resides after a few seconds. So do you guys start the tractor at half or full throttle? Does starting the machine at idle have some negative impact on the engine? Or am I just "over reading" the manual?

2.) The manual is a little bit fuzzy regarding the 'soft' engagement button next to the PTO... I'm kind of confused (or have a reading comprehension problem.) I guess it's trying to differentiate between high and low inertia implements. I woud assume, by default, to always use it no matter what implement you are using? Is this what you guys do?
(For the record, the only implement I own right now is a rotary cutter, 5'.)

3.) Also, when engaging the PTO, it states to move the lever to 540rpm (for rear mounted implements), then engage the soft switch followed by the PTO button depressed on turned to the right. What I'm not sure about is engine RPM. The way I understand it from the manual is to leave the engine RPM below 2,430 then slowly incease it to 2,500 as to not shock the drive line. I thought that's what the 'soft' swith was for? Again, maybe I'm reading too much into the manual?

4.) The manual notes 10w-30 for every temp. I don't have a problem running this as my local parts store stocks plenty of Rotella 10w-30 but I've always known diesels to take 15w-40. Does AGCO even make a 10w-30? My dealer didn't have any?

5.) I've noticed that the only aftermarket filter made for the 1643 is a fuel filter. I guess AGCO is the only company for an oil filter?

6.) Front Axle... I've noted on here that some are filling with 75w-90... the manual calls for Perma Tran III. Any consensus here?

7.) 150hrs. on the oil seems a bit short? Has anyone performed a UOA on the iseki diesels to see if this could be extended? I won't be pushing the oil change interval until after warranty expires but 150hrs. seems awfully short.

8.) Warm up period... within reason I can understand this. But when ambient temperature is 75-90 degrees outside, i don't think the machine needs a 10 minute idle. Do you guys crank her up and put her to work or idle around for a few minutes?

9.) Any of info that 1600 series owner's want to throw out and advice regarding maintenance, servicing, operating, etc...

Many thanks,
-Dellinger

Welcome aboard.

1 - They give a puff when stsrted st idle. I prefer to festher the foot pedal when starting, and refuse half throttle starts in tne cold.

2 - We engage the PTO at idle, then increase after engagement. The soft start is great for a rear mower, or anything like that

3 - see two.

4 & 8 - AGCO does have a 10W30, but we switched to 5W40 syn after break in. Not worth extending the interval. Stick to the hours, oil is not that expensive.

5 - The OEM filters are not that expensive, not even worth looking at the cheaper aftermarket filters. Plus, support your dealer, and buy some stuff ftom the parts dept. Keeps them in business.

6 - We put 75W90 syn in on the 50 hour service. Have had no issues at all.

9 - When it is warm, we start it up and go. Did you get a block heater?

Powershuttle or HST?

Will, the info is greatly appreciated.

I would be very glad to support my dealer but he's about 50 miles away. Maybe when I'm doing business in that general area I'll have to schedule in a stop at the dealership for filters and what-have-you.

My unit is a powershuttle.

No block heater... down here, it's too wet in the Winter to get out and do anything... and Winter's about here.
