Also gave a Cat 225 track hoe a hard time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif The owner of the Cat said it would be no problem pulling it out, but when he was done, he said "that was really in there". At one point, the rear of the tracks came off the ground about a foot or so, so I guess it must have really been in there.

I also had six other similar diameter trees removed, and another similar sized stump that had been cut off. It took the Cat 225 about three hours, probably would have taken my BX about 12-14 weeks? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Anyway, cost me $800, I figure it was money well spent rather than tearing up my little tractor.

Tdog, it's a Florida Pine, or possibly called a Southern Pine. It was infested with Boginvilla and vines, so I cut it down. This was about six months ago. The tree was about 35-40 feet tall, and the vines and Boginvilla had grown all the way to the top, and all the way back down to the ground again. They were also beginning to infest other trees nearby, so I just cut it down since I didn't think it was going to be practical to save it. I had 59 Florida Pines on my property, I didn't think I'd miss one. Actually, when I cut it down, the Boginvilla leading to the other trees caught it and held it up, and I had to hire a guy to push it the rest of the way down with a skid steer. This was before I bought the tractor.

I put some other very large pictures here:

You can see the same pics above in very high resolution, and also a pic of the same tree that this one was. This other tree broke during Hurricane Jeanne and, and it was one that was removed today also.

John, yes, it is a very large root ball. No wonder the BX, or the come along, or the BX and come along working together, wouldn't budge it.

Was wondering if you gave $800 for 3hrs? That would be price gouging. I just had same machine clear a 1600' fence roww of HUGE trees. 10hr @ 8/5hr, operator included. I don't like people being taken advantage of in bad situations.

P.S. here's a pic of a Live Oak stump after I dug down to the clay with our 'Bota L-3130, had to winch it out of the clay with a 10,000 pound winch! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It was $800 for the whole job, it just took about three hours. It was actually seven trees and two stumps. All root balls were about the same size as the one in the pictures except one. I wasn't aware I was being gouged. I had a quote to get the stumps ground for $750, if I was cutting the trees. I figured I could rent a stump grinder and do it myself alot cheaper, but three of the stumps I needed out because I plan on putting up a metal building in that area. I decided to go with the track hoe for that reason.

In defense of the guy who did the work, he did show up and do the quote when he said he would, and he did show up and do the work he said he would, with the machine he said he would bring, on the truck he said it would come on. That's a first for me. The last guy I hired showed up three hours late, did an hour's worth of work, left with a skidsteer bucket full of my landscape rocks, and later sold the rocks at a garage sale. This was the same guy I hired to push down the tree when I cut it and the vines caught it. He was mad when I didn't pay him, but well, he didn't do the work I wanted either. I like to save money, but well, good workers are sometimes worth extra.

Yes, I familiar with Florida pine. It practically explodes if you through a match in it's general direction. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
