Well, I have heard them all as of today. The wife wants me to install a horn on the tractor... I was going to take out the Tilt Seat switch and turn that into the aux to run my sprayer... Now I have to get rid of another switch or start drilling holes for the pushbutton.

And then I have my own winter upgrades. Going to put a plate across the front that bolts on to protect the hoses and connectors, going to add a tab of some sort at the engine cage so I can lock the cage up when we are gone to reduce theft possibilities, and finally I am going to figure out an extension to the lock / unlock handle...

Consider a bulb type bicycle horn, no power required!:D

Did she say why?

My Branson came with a horn. In almost six years, I have never used it, other than a couple of times to see if it still worked, more out of curiosity than anything else.

If only I had the time for something other than fixing it, I can think of several things I would like to put on my PT. A horn isn't one of them. I have never considered it. If you can't hear a PT coming, you are officially deaf, and a horn won't do a bit of good. A bright flashing light on the other hand.......;)

Here's a red horn to match your red tractor. ;)

I think my wife thinks that I cannot hear her yelling from the tractor at me. It is actually me choosing to ignore her... Well. Lets not share that shall we...

Dear Carl,

If you really don't want to drill a new hole, you could replace an existing switch and make it a dual function switch.

I added upper lights to my ROPS so that I could look over the FEL and see what I was doing. I changed the existing light switch (a SPST) to a DPST, with a center off. You could get a momentary contact version.

Or just wire a switch into the joystick.

Or put the switch on the top plate, or in the add on box that will house your hydraulic oil temperature gauge, oil pressure alarm(s), and... :)

Or get a pair of noise reduction headset walkie talkies. (Usually sold for NASCAR fans, and helicopter operators.) If you do, let us know how they work.

Not to be pessimistic, but I don't think a lock on the engine cowl is going to slow anyone down. A friend of mine recently had his containers broken into; they broke the locks off of three of them, and then loaded the fourth one up on a truck and drove it away. It had the heavy valuables in it. Most of the heavy equipment around here all has the same ignition key...

All the best,

Peter

Not to worry. Just leave the key in the ignition. Once they start it, they will wet their pants trying to figure out how to control it. They'll probably think you booby trapped it.

Officer, I heard a diesel start up over at Carl's place, and then there was this blood curdling scream followed by a horrible crashing sound. Then I heard a vehicle start and drive away real fast.

:D:p:D

And set the seat so it tips as soon as the key comes on, too.;)

All brilliant ideas. I am the first to get noise cancelling headsets and then ignore her even that much more... As for the security, You guys are absolutely right and I am the firs to agree that the lock will not slow down a professional. I do have tweakers who have come up on the property, as well as I have a group of kids who wander buy now and then (our property is a shorcut to a local fishing hole). So, it is only a minor deterrent. Besides, I have a full video security system going that works amazingly well. Keeps me posted on all the people coming and going...

Just FYI, I bought a pair of Peltor Digital Radio headsets with Ipod input. They work. Kinda. Radio is complete junk, but the ipod connector is solid. For $50 not a bad purchase. But, I think that they could make a whole new generation of soundproofing headsets and with all this great and cheap technology.

If you look in Safety you will see a fairly thorough review of my headset purchases I have made...
