I was out a mowing in shorts and a short sleeve shirt on the 40D, a humming and having a good ol' time knocking down the grass.

When I notice off in the distance a real bad cloud.

So I head back to the pole barn, real fast, cause now it's a blowing in like a banshee.

No that isn't snow, but it is hail, lots of it......

They say if you don't like the weather in Ohio to stick around for 15 minutes as it will change. I believe them........

Mike that's what I'm hoping don't happen around here within the next year./forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Reason being is I just got that truck and won't have a garage to put it in until next year when when we hopefully get a house completed.

Wow. That can sure change your plans for awhile. Did you make it back to the PB in time?

Well Mike, it looks like you got peppered with pea-sized hail. Even that small stuff can sure sting if you are caught out in it. From my experience though, it takes quarter sized hail to reallly do any damage to vehicles or roofs.

How long did it take for that much hail to fall? I hope you don't have more nor any bigger. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'll agree with you on the 1/4" hail Jim. We rarely see it around here but my F150 suffers from a good bit of damage due to approx. 1/4 - 1/2" hail storm I ran into one night coming home from work 2 years ago. I was runnin a little over the speed limit on a state route and thought I was just going to run into some rain when ding........ding....dingdingdingdingdingdingdingding. Freaked me out cause I'd never experienced that before and pulled into this farmers driveway looking for a shed barn or something and the only thing I could find was a mature red cedar tree. It helped some but my hood took a beating and the hail broke my window visors and bug sheild. Still haven't replaced the visors but trashed the bug shield. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I'd hate to get that golf ball size hail you all get down there and out west. I'm sure the stories rank well above my little incident.

Jim I made it back to the pole barn with the 40D, then quickly sheltered the wifes SUV. She was headed out the door to do some shopping but I temporarily changed her plans as I wasn't sure how big or how long the hail was going to continue.

It ranted and raved for about 10 minutes then went into a low steady rain for another 30 minutes. All the pea sized hail came down within a 10 minute period and it actually looked like snow blowing off the roof. It was really spooky when it was all done because at that point the air was calm and cold. The water in the pond must have actually been warmer than the air so it was steaming pretty good down by the pond.

Another hour and a half later and I was back out in my short sleeve shirt pushing the trim mower to finish around the pond. Guess you just gotta love this Ohio weather. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

At least it wasn't the size of the current record. Can't quite find a picture, but was estimated to be the size of a cantaloupe (way past ouch).
