I bought a used Cutmaster 38 with no torch, found an sl60 torch from a separate seller. The torch does not have an ATC connector. The Cutmaster 38 requires an ATC connector. TD's specs and info did not specify that a non-ATC connector wouldn't fit, and the tech support people tell me there's no way to get the torch to fit the machine (even though it says in all their PDFs and literature that the SL60 fits the Cutmaster 38), that they do not even sell an adapter....although they DO sell adapters to fit many OTHER brands of machines.

After I cooled down some:confused2: I called them back and asked if the SL40 torch would fit the Cutmaster 38 (because it does have an ATC connector). The guy I spoke to assured me that it would. I am now very leery of what TD says.....SO, just to double-check, *before* I pull the trigger on a new SL 40 torch, does anyone have experience running an SL40 torch on a Cutmaster 38?

Thanks in advance for your help.

SL 40 will work. or find an SL60 with an ATC. The torch you found was for another year machine or different brand. The 38 is 115v/230v and that is what the SL40 is designed for along with the ability to run off of only 3.2cf of air. That way you can run it on a pancake roofing type compressor instead of a large 5hp type.. All the Cut Masters are ATC.. That's why there is no adaptor to go the other way. You could easily sell the non ATC torch to get your money back. Usually when you buy something for your car or tractor or plasma cutter, you will never find a listing of all the parts that don't fit. Only the ones that do.:) good luck.

Thanks, I'm very glad to know that.

Will there be any difference in the quality/cut capacity as well?

I'm also glad to hear about the air requirement difference. My compressor is small and I was thinking I'd have to wait for it to charge back up.

No change in capacity but the 40 is a smaller torch than the 60. Parts are less cost and the torch uses much less air. The 38 and 39 really didn't require that 60 torch that they came with,, it was overkill.
