Buying Advice Things to remember when negotiating price

Is there anything that is good to remember or ask for when buying a tractor and negotiating a price? Not brand wise, but any add ones or extras? Things that maybe a week/month/year later you wished you got it added on? Or things they are likely to throw in if you ask?

I’m trying to get a list written down before I go and talk to them.

1) Fluid filled tires
2) LED work lights added
3) Bucket hooks
4) 50 hr maintenance

Those are things I’ve got so far I’d like to see if they will do for me

Personally, I wouldn't (and didn't) consider any of those things other than filled tires. They included the rears, but I paid to have the fronts done.. I added a couple of implements (tiller and subsoiler) that could be added to the financing instead of buying them later. I wish I had added a landscape rake and carry all, but I didn't know I would need or want them at the time.

I'm not one to try to nickle and dime a dealer over small stuff I can easily do myself and in my own way instead of how they want to do it.

I did however insist on the shop/service manuals which they gave me on a thumb drive.

Extra remotes/third function, Delivery, p/u and delivery for warranty/repairs, field service option, extended warranty, discounts if attachments bought at time/later date, parts discounts, loaner equipment while yours is in service, rental attachments/discount, free coffee/drinks/hats....my dealer loves seeing me . Don’t forget to bring all quotes in a folder to compare on the spot. This is a large purchase, make them do their homework and sharpen the pencil.

Some guys would say a HAT, Not me, I don't own or need one.

Generally, you can only try and get stuff that would cost a dealer little, but might cost you more. Also, sometimes items would need to come out of the budget of another department, complicating things.

Are you talking (or dreaming) about getting that stuff for FREE, or just at better pricing rather than buying it later?

I got my tractor and all my attachments for free! But d*mn was that an expensive ball cap I had to buy for them to throw the free stuff in! :laughing:

Forks can usually get added depending on the tractor size.

Good ideas, thanks. I’m not talking “free” stuff or “nickel and diming” the dealer. Just wondering like someone mentioned maybe things that are inexpensive for the dealer or things I might forget and need later.

When I couldn't get my truck price down any more, I had them throw in a bedliner, but it wasn't a GM one!

When we bought our JD 6200, I went poking around the dealers used implement inventory and found an old style JD Bale Grapple, designed to go on a bucket (But I put it on a fork carrier) which was entangled in the weeds. He agreed to part with it.
