Think You Can Drive a Bulldozer?

A friend let me play with his dozer years ago. It only took two passes for me to convert flat ground into washboard.

I think dozer GPS is going to be more challenging than field tractor GPS due to having a third dimension (the most important one) to deal with.

Manufacturers are after low cost inexperienced operators as a sales point for their machines, which is great for company stock, and Wall Street. You have to remember who the machinery companies real customers are - the stockholders. The really good experienced non-union operators will get kicked to the curb by large contractors and be forced to take cuts.
I have yet to see a GPS control compensate for different material density, such as working along in glacial till and then encountering a vein of caliche. Even my laser control has a hard time with transitions like that.

Well lets have one work say, next to a creek, over the top of a natural gas line and see what happens. This is as ridicules as cars that merge and exit off the freeway on there own by computers software. It will never work, what if someone like the boss pulled up behind the dozer as it was reversing for the next pass.
