awhile back I put together a mid size excavator with a power pack driven AFE RDM34EX gen 3 mulching attachment.
I am having a tough time keeping it busy due to limited operating times imposed because of fire danger. the biggest opposition has been from environmentalists,
and the "devastating impact" it has on the land. I guess if you are a woodrat or some other some such critter they may have a point. I live in costal California.. Yes, it is rather devastating to vegetation, thought that was the point. more devastating than a wildfire? wildfires are a "natural" occurrence, mulchers are not...

as mentioned AFE RDM34 mounted on a 18000 lb Komatsu PC78, 55hp Deutz powered hyd power unit. power pack puts out conservatively 35gpm at 4500 psi.
pump can be tuned for gpm, psi, cut in - cut out, so good for many applications.
I have about 100 hrs on the rig, it has surpassed all expectations in productivity.

ive got about 65K in the whole package not inc many hours fabrication.
hate to see it go but hate to see it sit too.

Youll be needing near a hundred HP for that output to be conservatively. ... Bummer on the environmental BS. Couldnt you rig a water spray? More paraphernalia, I know..

Thanks Larry,

I stand corrected
Approx. 20 gpm @ peak psi, variable displacement piston pump, so numbers fluctuate with volume and pressure
GPM x PSI x 0.0007 = X

Sure I'd catch he'll for running a water system too, we're in a severe drought.

But how much would actually be needed to dampen/cool the work if sprayed into the working head? The energy of phase change --liquid to gas-- is 540 calories per gram, happening at 212F. Way below any danger of burning. Id bet 50 to 100 GPH metered in as a fine high pressure spray would put you dead safe. :confused3: ... Probably LESS. Shoot, youre only using 50 KW- A KW wont boil off a gallon of water per hr.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the greenies. Idiots. They'd rather have devastating "natural" wildfires fueled by an unnatural supply of woody debris and fuel that's pile up over the last 150 years from suppression of "natural" fires. Uggh.

That output would be similar to what a large frame skidsteer puts out and you could find work in Texas taking on cedar on hill tops. I'm not sure how that mower would do in the rock but a small fae or fecon head would do wonders on steep ground.

Larry, we are dealing with percieved threats, not based in fact or reality. I could have a fire truck following me around and people would still be concerned with fire hazard
thanks for the advise on water though.

yellowdog, machine does well around rock, sitting up high provides better visibility than some skidsteer type machines that ive run.
heres a shot of a job I recently completed, I was concerned more with old farm debris and irrigation pipe, got lucky, no surprises. finished in a day!

Wow. That looks nice. I'll bet that machine makes some noise!

If I had tried to mulch that, I think i would have hit those rocks. I have always thought an excavator mounted mulcher would be great for stuff like that. I can't be the mobility of my Bobcat w/mulcher but there's a lot of jobs where i'd rather sit and chew on stuff from the top and sides. Can't be so picky with the front mounted mulcher.

Cool pics.
