Thinking of building an articulated loader backhoe.

I have an idea brewing inside my head. I was gonna make my current backhoe drive. But the cylinder mounts I used before on my backhoe aren't really strong enough. They work but not like I want it too.

So instead of trying to purchase the stronger and thicker material and try to get it right. I was thinking of building an articulated loader and putting this backhoe attachment on it.

I figure by the time I buy the new steel and the extra cylinders for the stabilizers and all that jazz. I could have this attachment that's ready to mount.

I could then use the cylinders I bought for the backhoe for the front end loader.

I'd like to make it where I can put the attachment on and take it off when not needed. This way I could use the tractor for other things.

I was also wondering how much does one of these attachments weigh? I'd like to know because I want to make the frame strong enough to hold it.

I've already changed my mind about making it articulated. I got to thinking that I could just make it steer with a gear box I saved off my old Buick Regal when I scrapped it.

I've sketched up a little plan for it. Not a perfect sketch though. lol I've attached it. I sketched it up in paint. And of course when it gets built the seat and steering wheel will be closer and not so far away. :laughing:

I was thinking of putting one of These diesel engines on it. It's already got the pump mount. So I figured that will work out okay.

in Scandinavian countries, you dont see the conventional backhoe at all anymore, since Huddig developed the articulated type in the early 80's:

I can't wait to get this thing built. :thumbsup: For now at least I have an operational backhoe. So this one will be a bit slower going.

I'm thinking of using 6 inch channel iron for the frame. I should have saved my front end from my Buick. But oh well I'm sure I'll find another front end for the steering.

I wish I could find an old diesel truck with a good engine and standard Tranny. That would sure give it more weight and horsepower.

Heck that just might be a better idea instead of the hydraulic drive. I could belt drive the hydraulic pump off the front of the engine for the backhoe and loader.

Come to think of it. I know right where a good gasoline engine and standard Tranny is. A friend of mines got it. I pulled it out of an old truck for him that he gave us for scrap. I just might make him a deal on it. I'm sure I could make it work on it. It came out of an old Mazda B2000 pickup.

Now just to find another clutch pedal, gas pedal, and brake pedal and system.

Also I'm sure I got a radiator around somewhere that will work on it. I just might go that route because it would be nice to have a cab with heat for moving snow in the winter.
