Thinking of downsizing L3800 to BX2370

Well, you could "fake" it up a bit with orange rattle can, but most buyers sure aren't gonna hold that against it, I wouldn't think. . . .

Yep. If a buyer is gonna complain about paint missing from the bottom of the FEL bucket, I wouldn't want to deal with someone like that anyway.

Last motorcycle I sold, I told the buyer: "Hey, if you're looking for a bike to take home and put in a glass display case, this one ain't for you. This one is meant for riding."

Well, we worked on my brother's property on Saturday and had them side by side, doing some different tasks preparing his "hunt club" for this upcoming season. My thoughts are now becoming confused. While I still think it would be great to go this route and that I'd get more use from the smaller tractor, I'm thinking that it is nice to have my larger tractor to fill a void too. This L3800 is so strong and with the extra weight, I can get a lot of stuff done pretty quick in comparison. I honestly wish I could have both!! :D

Still thinking through that though, my brother has a big blue tractor that needs a rebuild that could do some big work if he gets it running again. And frankly, the "hunt club" is not part of my normal responsibilities and is generally a once a year thing for me or no more than twice a year that I go over there to do work on his property, so I probably shouldn't take that into account. There is certainly a place for each of them. I'm going to have to think on it longer.

Dealer has not gotten back to me yet with a price or trade offer yet, so I'm not in a rush one way or the other.

I've heard of people that own more than one at a time but not saying it's always a good thing unless there is a "regular/ongoing" need for 2 different ones. I'm having lots of trouble keeping up with routine oil and filter changes and different schedules between 4 Kubotas now, but couldn't possibly give any one of them up.

I've got a medium (Kioti DK50SE) and a small (Kubota BX23), and I have uses for both of them. My life would be more complicated if I had to give one of them up.

Update - Been discussing more with wife about pros and cons and already leaning toward waiting and buying another mower when mine dies instead of trading for one tool for all jobs. Wife says I'm going to end up wanting to buy this size again anyway in a few years and I suspect she's right so no sense in starting over. I then spent time with my dealer Saturday.

He recommended that I don't do this trade because he agreed with my wife that I'd probably want another L in a few years anyway knowing my properties and hobbies. Instead he recommended that I don't just look at a BX for a second tractor/mower, but instead come pick up his GR and try that for my mowing needs as a cheaper alternative to a BX and a lifetime diesel dedicated mower.

I will try to make my JD lawn mower last another couple years and few months, then buy a BX or GR or at least wait until I'm close to having the L3800 paid off. I still like the idea of the BX for reasons previously stated and would like to get a loader with it when I initially buy it, but don't really need another loader. But if getting the GR, there is no 3PH or loader options. Discussed with my brother and he told me to take dealer up on offer to use his GR to cut my lawn, then the following week take my brother's BX and cut the lawn and see what I think about both machines. For mowing, I'd say the only drawback to the GR from what I've read and what dealer has said is the deck is 54" while the BX can handle a 60". Maybe that's a pro also. I'll find out soon enough.

My dealer is awesome and I've said that before on here. I'll take some time trying to decide which route to go, but like the idea of a second machine also being a tractor instead of only having one function. GR is like $8,900. If spending that much, my first thought is why not spend a little more and have more functionality.

As to BX vs GR and not "needing" another loader. I have no experience with a GR, but even though we own several tractors with loaders, we still need one of our BXs with a loader for spots not practical for the larger tractors. Our John Deere 425 is a good mower, but it went unusd after buying our BXs and we recently gave it to one of our sons. As always, your situation may well dictate a different set of needs than mine.

Yep, trying to close a deal with someone who is concerned about paint on the bucket would be entirely too painful.

The GR is a mower only and for a good amount of dollars. The BX is a tractor and if you ever decide to get rid of it then resale will be much easier in my opinion.
Another option to consider. With a good dealer like you have, tell him to contact you if he has a customer that has a low hours well maintained BX that they need/want to dispose of or trade in to him. You won't get the 0% interest of a new one but by buying through the Kubota dealer you can get the Kubota Credit Corp lower rate they offer for used Kubotas. This could help him make a deal with the trading in individual and a sale to you at a small profit with his knowledge being utilized for a fair used machine price. If it takes a few months or a year then so be it since you don't have an immediate need. He will also know some near Kubota dealers that may have a good used one on hand or a customer wanting to trade one in to them. Dealers also trade among them selves, he may have something he's having trouble selling due to his local market that he's took on trade that he can trade to the machine you need/want. Some Kubota dealers, maybe all, do swapping of inventory as needs arise for a machine they don't have in stock. I know they can look at other Kubota dealers new inventory on the computer.
Talk this over with your dealer.
