RayIN, thanks for posting. Only thing that I would add is if in doubt, add more tiedowns.
One of my "gigs" was hauling pole barn materials, sometimes the whole kit in case of a smaller structure. In that case, I would stand the trusses upright in the middle of the deck. Posts and purlins on either side then strapped down with 4" straps. Tin on top of that with straps over the pack blocking. Leather strap protectors over all rub points. All small parts would go into a large wooden box that was returned to the yard once empty. Plastic safety fence on top of the box to prevent the wind from lifting light objects. Finally, the worst if part of the package, the windows. Windows are like eggshells. I tied them up with rope while securing the rope through either stake pockets and/or the rub rail and usually to the truss pack.
Never lost a part. Never had more than a glance by DOT.

Every week or so, I go by this aluminum semi-trailer parked with what look to be new 4" straps. The first time I noticed it, the trailer had round bales on it. It would appear that the bales were unloaded and the straps just left to hang. They had built a new pole barn close by this past fall. The ground rises up over a hill so I cannot see if it's some kind of farming operation. It must be three months or so that I had been seeing this.
It irritates me to see equipment mistreated like this.

In 2014 my Cleary 40x60x12 6-12 pitch showed up on one tractor trailer. Some of the columns were 35' long. Cleary has a truss and a column about every 4'. Cleary column is 3 2x6 nailed together.

A friend of mine always advised one extra strap as a safety strap. Put all the straps on that are needed. Then guess which would be the worst strap to have fail. Add one more strap just in case.
Just a week ago I bought some ratchet straps from Lowes to replace some older ones that are wearing. I am very, very disappointed with these. They loosened badly, all on their own, during transport. I'm glad I always stop and check shortly after departing then at points along the way. These straps are dangerous.

I have been getting mine from these folks. Any width, custom lengths, ratchet style, package deals, colors, etc, etc.
