My girlfriend is going to buy a tractor this month.
She will be lifting hay bales that can weigh 1500.00
Only to get off of her flat bed and two high for storage.
She wants a backhoe and a auger too. Plus other things for around her place. She has 40 acres but will really never do much with it for quite awhile. It's high desert in Southern Oregon 5000 plus ft.

I looked at a Branson 4220 and a smaller 3510 Mahindra and a even smaller New Holland which was very nice but probably too small. She is not haying with it and is only to clean up stalls and
whatever she can think of using it for. Building a shop for one.

Anyway She went into a dealer in Klamath falls today and they sell Kioti. The guys at the dealership told here the kioti is too much money and she should get this one because it is a better tractor. The engine is made by Kabota.

I don't want to start a war but would like to know if these guys are on the level. I would prefer the kioti from what I have read about them.

Here is the email she just sent me. Maybe you guys can help her make the right pick. The dealer is about 120 miles from her house and I would try to talk her into going elsewhere if these guys are not on the level.

Thanks Scott.

Check this out. Kubota engine. Went to tractor store in Klamath today to
look at KIOI. They said this one cheaper and a better tractor.

I'm only going to say this about that. Kioti makes their own tractors. TYM builds tractors for different companies and uses parts from all over. Down the road, I would be afraid that a model that didn't do all that well would not have the parts support that a Kubota or Kioti (both build their own) would have.
TYM seems to enjoy a pretty good reputation, but I wouldn't really want an all purpose builder building MY tractor.
Take into account that Yanmar tried marketing their own brand tractor here in the States some number of years ago, but could just never get a hold on the market. Their parts are now very expensive and not always easy to come by. Of course, this could happen to any company, but I think the risks are elevated when buying an all purpose builder tractor like the TYM. They have also built tractors for Mahindra & Mahindra and seem to do a pretty good job.
I know that the Kioti is a good brand, I own one, and have used several of the models. They receive generally great reviews from TBN members who have them, and their prices are usually somewhat less than other well-known brands for what you get as standard.
I couldn't disagree more that the TYM is a "better" tractor, anymore than I could agree that a Kubota is better than a John Deere or New Holland or Mahindra, or Montana, or whatever tractor. They are all different, made differently, and all are usually pretty darn good. Comfort, ease of use and a good fit and finish are good comparison points.
The Kioti DK55 or DK65S would be what I'd recommend she check out. I bet if she gets to use them, she'll fall in love and buy one.
Anytime I hear of a dealer trying to steer someone to their "other" line, it's usually because they're making more money on the other one. Kioti frowns on their dealers using this tactic, and have closed out their relationships with several dealers who were doing what this one is.

EDIT: I'd like to add that if their website is any indication of what their tractors are like, they sure aren't better than Kioti. You can hardly even read this webpage, and they have the menu right over part of it! J

The 1500 lb bales are a concern. The T400 TYM uses a TL200 loader that is rated at 1318 lbs lift at the pins. They also put a dinky 7.5' hoe on T400 tractor. Good tractors, but not handy if they can't lift or dig what you need. By comparison, the 4110 Mahindra is also built by TYM, but lifts 1972 lbs in the FEL at the pins and can take a 9'8" hoe. The loaders and backhoes are spec'd out by Mahindra on the 4110, not TYM. Interestingly, 70% of TYM's worldwide production are sold as Mahindra's 10 series.

The 4530 Mahindra, built by Mahindra themselves, lifts 2950 lbs at the pins and can take either the 9'8" hoe or the 11' hoe. It's a little large for some tasks though as it is not a compact.

I think the TYM is out of the picture based on load capacity. Remember that the center of weight for the bales is out a little ways from the pins, so you will need something that lifts at least 2000 lbs at the pins, preferably a little more. Make sure the back of the tractor has ballast for safety, even if she gets a larger tractor. I have a 7010 70 HP 4x4 Mahindra Cab model and I can lift the rear tires off the ground in a heartbeat if lifting a heavy load without ballast.

I don't have the numbers handy for the Kioti, but I am sure someone else does and can jump in here.

If it was me, and I had my heart set on a Kioti, I would be driving to another Kioti dealer. I hate it when a company hides under the signage of another brand. I know very little about Kioti as there isn't a dealer around here but from what I read they are a very strong and durable tractor with a good reputation. And their market share is increaseing every year. This other brand I even know less about and for all I know may not even be in business in 5 years. And I am not saying anything bad about the other line but what if you need parts down the road are you going to get them.

I talked to her this morning and it was not quite like steering her away from it. There was another customer in there that had bought a TYM and that is how some of this came up. This is third party stuff so I better not condenm him just yet.
My girlfriend did not tell him about the haybales and the weight of them. They are 1200 to 1500 max. It seems like she forgot the most important point. This guy seems to want to deal some so that is good. She did make him aware of the new model DK 45s and he called on it. I know with a KB 2385 backhoe and a 12 '' bucket, Bushhog 5' rotary cutter, FEL (but not sure which one) It was around $26,000.00 for the DK45S
I know she needs to get the correct # on all the attachments to see if this is ok.

She only has three horses and that is why she wants to lift the hay bales. So it won't be a everyday deal.

I do think a weight box and loaded tires will be needed for sure. Would wheel weights make any sense or just filled tires.

There is lots of sage brush that she would like to cut so it seems she needs a good strong cutter. Is sage brush a tire killer and should she do something different with filling her tires? (foam)
This is flat land too.

She was impressed with the five year engine warranty on the TKM. I told her it's nice but all the little engines are good. I will keep the thing up and it will be stored inside mostly. I kind of think it is a non issue. I really doubt she would put very many hours on one. I might though!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks,
Scott

The Kioti DK55 or DK65S would be what I'd recommend she check out.

rather than get into a this vs. that, i'm going to echo the sentiments of KiotiJohn, but i can point out the following:

after MUCH research on all brands of tractors, i decided on the Kioti DK55 Cab. based on what your girlfriend's criteria, this tractor would do what you want it to do..

last weekend i moved large round bales (forgive my ignorance, i don't know the weight of these things) for my neighbor (seems his 'blue' tractor was having some warranty work done). using a bale spear, i moved the bales from his barn to his fields without any trouble.

having said that, i can point out that i've owned the kioti for 10 months. i have over 300+ hours on the machine with no complaints. i'll also point out that this tractor was far less than the equivalent orange tractor i was looking at. in fact, the difference in price was so substantial, my wife is driving a new F-150.

as others pointed out, do research - drive other tractors. there are many good brands out there these days, and some are very good deals.

good luck.

TYM is the "MTD and Murray" of the tractor world... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

a mahindra 00 series is a better fit than a 10 series for round bails, plus 40 acres........she needs a full size tractor. the 00 series is very high quality and heavy, with strong loaders.

He's trying to sell you a tractor. Go sit and drive them. The Kioti is more comfortable and the prices are very similar between the Kioti and Branson! I've drove Mahindra, Branson, Kioti, Kubota, Farmtrac, Massey, Montana, Scorpion, NH and JD in the 35-45HP range. Would have bought any of them. For comfort, features and price, the Kioti won me over!
