This years bumper crop of mosquitoes!!!!!

It seems that this year we have a bumper crop of mosquitoes hatching. I have heard about the new mosquito magnets, but don't know of any one that has one. Anyone here have any experience with them? Price and brand will be helpful... thanks Junkman

junkman i was thinking the same thing today.I went to costco to look at one covers about 1/3 ac.and you shoud see a change in 7 to 10 days close to $300.00. my feeling is to little in to long a time.Iwant them gone NOW

My wife asked me what would happen if I were to start to take the Brewers Yeast tablets that are sold for dogs to keep fleas and mosquitoes from biting them. I told her that I had a customer in my old store that had tried it and it killed him. She asked what happened and I explained that one day he was laying on the front lawn when a truck went by and he started to chase after it and got hit by a car. She didn't think much of the "joke" and at that point, we just ended the discussion. I could loan you my wife,she'll attract every mosquito on 10 ac. She's pretty good at swatting them to /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have the MosquitoVac from Sams Club, $348.00, bought in july of last year. I think they've come down in price this year. I liked the idea that it didn't need a extension cord. The thing does suck up mosquitos & black flies, quite a few, but I think you'd need 2 or more of them to make a real difference at our place. I went outside at 5:30 this morning & was not immediately set upon, so maybe starting earlier this year will work. I also bought some of those floating larvicide tablets at Agway & tossd them in the wet areas. I'm hoping the combination of the two brings relief.

I bought a mosquito magnet "Liberty" model last year that worked pretty well when properly placed. Our prevailing winds are generally from the south, but occasionally they shift around from the northwest, etc., requiring moving the machine. I bought it at Home Depot and I think it was 400-500 but don't know for sure. I've found that we can't use the "octynol" (sp?) attractant here, as it seems to repel the Asian Tiger mosquito and that's our main population. Proper placement is the key to catching mosquitos. When I was looking to buy I studied extensively and felt that the mosquito magnet was the best choice even though it was more expensive than some of the others. However, things may have changed since last spring and other products may be on the market I'm not aware of.
We have several dense trees within the acre near the house such as Leland Cypress and Live Oaks that are about 30-40' and have never been "legged" up so they provide a lot of cover for the critters. I have a propane fogger that I use about twice a week in late evenings around the shrubby areas and dense tree foliage in addition to the M/M and we aren't bothered much by the mosquitos.
