Buying Advice Thoughts on buying an older turbo'd tractor?

What do you guys think of the price on this one? I'd have to have it hauled to me. Found a guy that will do that for $600.

Massey Ferguson 115 tractor $59 - farm & garden - by owner - sale

Personally I am not a fan of Masseys due to a few of the handling characteristics. If all this is true, i.e. only 3800 real hours and all things working, this looks like a decent buy. it has good sized front tires, full 3 pt, and dual remotes. the drawbar does not look worn so i do not think it has had a lot of hard pulling hours. I am not sure how parts are to get but you are close enough to Canada where they sold a lot more Masseys that there should be some used parts available.

As the ad says - it is cheap horsepower - for probably the same reasons that I am not a fan of them. But they were known to be a tough tractor.

does it have the correct PTO for your needs some of those where only 1000 rpm, and I believe the transmission is a 3 sp with a high low and a Hi/Low power shift in each gear for a 6 sp with a power HI/LO. Decent price if it meets your needs.
I know that prices are dropping up here from the dairys going out.

That one sold, not surprising as it seemed to be priced right for this area. I'm starting to like White's. Anywhere from a 2-85 to a 2-155.

Like this one 1979 white 2-15 - farm & garden - by owner - sale I sent the guy a message asking how many hours. We'll see if he replys since it says to call.

I also got a hold of the owner of this ugly one. They say the cab is clean in the ad. In the email they told me it has a fuel leak at the fuel pump. Other than what the ad says, that's all I know about it. 1977 White 2-15, Field Boss Series (farm & amp: garden - by owner) - farm & garden - by owner - sale

I am thinking the 1st one even though more will cost you less. The second one has obviously set outside a lot.

2-105s were pretty good as were the 2-135 & 2-155. I would stay away from the 2-150 though as they had the old Minneapolis Moline motor - solid as a rock but oh so thirsty

I had an 800 cu in Big Cam Cummins 400 hp L6 with a million miles on the vehicle.....OEM original turbo still installed and working just fine.....problems occur with shutdown if required, idle for a few minutes to ensure turbo is adequately oiled. Some newer turbos, and turbos for cars and trucks don't need that......couldn't expect the motoring public to take the time to cool down their turbo before shutting off the engine.

The 2-155 used a 7.8L Hercules engine that didn’t have great durability at that power level. The PTO is a single speed 1000 RPM only. Other Whites would be better choices.

Thanks Rick, I just learned about that last night. So looks like no bigger than a 2-135 for me.

Any Case powershift experts? Talked to a guy with a 1070, he says "Clutch needs adjusted, but will shift first and third fine, second and fourth are rough". He'll let it go pretty cheap. Now here's what I know about powershifts.. I know there's linkage that is supposed to be adjusted as part of maintenance that isn't bad to deal with. I believe the first two clutches are not bad to get to but the 2nd two, you might as well scrap it. So based on his description any guesses what we're looking at?

Edit: actually I'm waiting to hear back, he didn't clarify that it was the powershift. May just be the basic high/low. Either way does anyone know what I may be looking at with the described symptoms.

Still on the hunt guys, the 1070 ended up being a bust.

Thoughts on these? Going to look at a white 2-105 tomorrow, 4800 hours. Everything is supposed to be good on it except a leaking injection pump. Looking online it looks like $800ish to buy a rebuilt one.

Case 1175, 5500 hours. Everything works good except it's difficult to move the shift lever to get it into gear. It is a manual 8 speed, powershift wasn't available on the 1175. It's had repairs done by a shop to one of the shift rails. The shop told the owner they went over everything and couldn't find any reason it would be hard to shift.

Massey 1105, 3500 hours. I haven't talked to the owner of this one yet but it's a pretty decent looking tractor. It's advertised as a 540 pto.
