thoughts on JD 855

There's a JD 855 for sale in my area(Iowa) and the guy wants $12,000 for it. It has 640hrs w/70a loader, 72"mid-mount mower, 54"snow plow, 66" dozer blade, 5' scrapper box blade. I looked at it and it seems to be in good condition. The owner has all manuals and says it is always stored inside. What say you all is it a good buy or should I try to get the price down some.

I think he is in the ball park with the pricing. With the low hours and equipment I don't think you can get him much lower. The 855 had a long run (1987-1998 I think). They have the Yanmar heritage. I have a price book that lists a 885 in the 7500-9500 range w/o equipment. Just my opinion.

The 855 is a really nice little tractor and hold their value extremely well. A friend of mine had one 10-12 years (which is where I had an opportunity to operate it). When he traded, he got $12500...and this machine had over 900 hours and was not in the best shape, cosmetically. This was about 4 years ago.
So, is that 855 worth $12K? Depends on the buyer.
I'd offer less ($9K-10K)...but would have cash in hand when I made the offer.

Well I ended up getting the tractor and got it delivered tonight. I paid $11,000 and think I did OK. For course it didn't happen unless you have pictures.

Looks like you found a gem... real straight shape, low hours and the attachments are a significant bonus!

IMHO the 855 is a great tractor.

My dad has had one for many years (15+). He isn't exactly careful about caring for his equipment, yet this has provided him with hundreds of hours of reliable service.
