Just curious about your thoughts on using Termidor for ant control. The product is now approved for use on ants (apart from termites) and I want to use it to remove ants that are taking over (I may be a bit generous with this statement:eek:) my place. They are traveling hundreds of meters and building nests of many square meters then expanding further. Their favourite spot is around the gate.

I tried to kill the nest with soft options like pyrethrin without success. then tried digging them out, another failure. I then resorted to chlorpyrophos and this killed the nest - for one season. Back they came the next year for another dose.

I need something that will be taken to the nest of the original nests that feed ants to my place. Anyone have experience with Termidor?

My brother uses Termidor for his place in the blue ridge mtns, and it did amazing things for the ant problem. But take the label warnings very seriously. That stuff is toxic as ****. If you spray and pets get any residual exposure to the dirt, they will die. Termidor stays in the ground forever for all practical purposes, and it's toxicity does not go away. Do not ever spray where it could get washed away and contaminate something, or where animals you care about could contact it. follow the label instructions, this is one chemical where all those warnings really mean business.

I believe the life span of the Termidor in the soil is 10 years. By EPA law, the produce must breakdown over time, in this case I believe it is 10 years. To make a product that stays active in the soil for 20+ years is not good because the strength and contamination of that product can be devastating to the environment.
